Inset at the end of the volume are transcripts of Montgomeryshire pedigrees, etc. Much of the material in the volume has been transcribed from other volumes now in the Cwrtmawr Collection (e.g. MSS 200, 222, 242 and 243) and there are references to such sources as 'un o lyfrau Maesglas Mallwyd' (transcribed in 1857) (p. 269), a manuscript in the hand of Robert Arthur (p. 342), 'Llyfr ym meddiant Lowri Jones' (p. 380), etc. A note pasted on the inside of the upper cover states 'This Vol. was copied by Owen Jones (brother of Myrddin Fardd) from a MS Vol. ... in the handwriting of Lewis Morris [Cwrtmawr MS 200] now at Bryntanad, Llanerfyl Montgomerys[hire] (Richards) E. Breese'. Owen Jones was for a short time a private tutor at BrynTanad (see The Dictionary of Welsh Biography). The spine is lettered 'Mannoethwy MSS'.

Commonplace book of John Lloyd Richards,

Two notebooks (pasted together) of the Reverend John Lloyd Richards (1790-1854), vicar of Llanwddyn containing 'Subjects for [weekly] themes given by Mr Ainger for 1821', '...[L]ines ... set up in a neat frame in the room at the Pavilion by the falls of the Clyde in Scotland', 1817; verses by R. Davies entitled 'I Bedwar Rhan y Flwyddyn'; prose texts entitled 'The Number Seven', 'English Language' and 'Esau and Jacob'; verses entitled 'Happiness' by the present Bp. of Calcutta. Dr. Heber'; personal accounts, 1821-31 (expenses at St Bees College and at Nun Monkton, payments to hired servants, receipts of rent etc.); etc. The scribe's sister, Mary Richards, during the period 1870-3 has used blank spaces to record copious memoranda, anecdotes and transcripts of verse and family letters.

Llyfr Hir Mair Richards,

A manuscript consisting largely of transcripts and memoranda by Mary Richards and Thomas Richards of Darowen. The volume appears originally to have been used as an account book of receipts and disbursements in respect of the farms of Llwyn, Cafnmaelen and Byrthlwydd [parish of Dolgellau, Merioneth], 1799-1802, and also to record biographies of [James Crichton, 'The Admirable'], Sir Francis Walsingham, Sir Francis Drake and William Cecil, Lord Burghley. Richards, Caerwys and another on poems on the shipwreck of St Paul; a deposition [after 1780] of Thomas Edward of Llan y Mawddwy, Merioneth, administrator of the estate of Griffith Jones of the parish of Sai[n]t Leonard, Foster Lane, London touching a debt due from Henry Parry of Cleneney, Caernarvonshire, dealer and chapman; 'Henwau y Pedwar ar hugain Marchog oedd yn llys y Brenin Arthur', 'Yr wyth fyd neu uchelderau y mae r Astronomyddion yn crybwyll am danynt', couplets extracted from 'cywyddau' of Edmwnd Prys, Huw Arwystl, Ieuan Tew and others, and an 'englyn' by Ioan Prichard (1670) from a manuscript written by John Morrus, 1784; the memorial inscription of William Foulkes, Ll.D., Mae[s] y Glwyden (ob: 1727/8); etc. Much of the poetry of 'Ieuan Glan Geirionydd', 'Gwilym Cawrdaf' and 'Ieuan Carndochan' was composed at Darowen Vicarage around the period 1822-3 and these transcripts are profusely annotated by the scribe. The volume was largely compiled during the years 1855-60 but there are some later entries dated to 1871. Among the insets and the items mounted on the inside covers is a pen-and-ink portrait of Thomas Richard[s], Darowen.

Berriew Bible Society minute book; transcripts by Mary Richards

A minute book of the Berriew branch of the Montgomeryshire Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, 1818-20, together with lists of subscriptions and donations, 1818-25, and an account of Bibles distributed in the parish, 1819-23. Richards family memoranda and accounts, etc.

A composite volume comprising two notebooks originally used by the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837) for personal and family memoranda and accounts (mainly 1821-37) of debts, wages paid to female servants, tithes, provisions, payments of interest and repayments of debts. It also includes accounts, 1816-24, between H. L. Eddes Gwynne and the Reverend Thomas Richards relating to Hirnant rents. The volume was subsequently used by Mary Richards, Darowen to record transcripts of letters, mainly between various members of the Richards family but including also letters from R.
