An imperfect, composite manuscript consisting of transcripts, in a number of hands of the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, of miscellaneous prose and verse items including Welsh poems in strict metre by Edward Dafydd, Dauudd Edward, Davydd William, 'viccar Penllin', Lewis Mfln, Thomas ap Rys 'o blas jolyn', Phillipp Pwell, John Tudur, Dauidd ap Gwilym, Robin Ddv, Gruffydd ap Iefan, John Philipps, Iolo Goch, Thomas Derllysc, Gruffydd Gryg, Siôn Cent, Richard Kynnwal, Huw Machno, Robert Dyfi, and Kadwalader Kesel, two versions of the code of rules for regulating the craft and conduct of the Welsh bardic order generally attributed to Gruffudd ap Cynan, a copy of 'The order of the funerall of John Conway of Botruthan in the Countie of Flint, Esquier, who was intered in Rithlan the 23th of December 1606', a prophesy entitled 'The prophesie of Gre[ ]' (Latin), and a short sequence of Welsh triads. Some of the leaves bear contemporary foliation indicating that they formed sections of other manuscripts. An inscription in the hand of Edward Williams (Iolo Morganwg) on the previous upper cover lists the contents of the volume, and, from this list, it appears that a section containing an account of Gruffudd ap Cynan's sojourn in Ireland in 1098 ('Hanes Gruffudd ap Cynan yn y Werddon yn y flwyddyn 1098') has been lost since the time the inscription was written. There are a few marginal annotations by Iolo Morganwg.

A manuscript collection of prose and verse in the hand of an amanuensis of Dr John Davies, Mallwyd. The volume comprises 'Ystori Peredur fab Efrawg', with five missing folios at the beginning supplied by John Jones ('Tegid'); 'Achau'r Kwrwf'; Caerwys Eisteddfod roll, May 26, 9 Elizabeth [1567]; triads; recipes; 'Tlysau Ynys Brydain'; 'Araith Wgan'; an extensive selection of 'cywyddau' and 'awdlau', mainly 'cywyddau merched', by Bedo Aeddren, Bedo Brwynllys, Dafydd ab Edmwnd, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Dafydd Nanmor, Gruffudd Gryg, Gruffudd Hiraethog, Guto'r Glyn, Gutun Owain, Iolo Goch, Lewis Glyn Cothi, Rhisiart Phylip, Sion Cent, Sion Phylip, Simwnt Fychan, Tudur Aled and others; a collection of eulogies offered to Dr John Davies, Mallwyd, some of the poems having the date of composition recorded and including poems by Huw Machno, Sion Cain, Rhisiart, Gruffudd, Siôn and William Phylip and others; and miscellanea in various hands, including 'englynion marwnad Sion Dafis Athro parchedig mewn devinyddiaeth [Dr John Davies, Mallwyd]' by 'Rowland Vaughan esgwier o Gaergai' (1644), 'penillion gwr ifanc i'w gariad' (1688), 'moliant Sion Foulkes, Llanymowthwy', by Huw Morus (1674), 'moliant . . . maer Dinas Mowthwy' by Richard Lloyd, a fragment of 'Achau y Cwrw a'i hanes', an account of mizes paid (1646-1647), notes on Latin grammar, recipes, pedigrees, and a fragment of an interlude ('Argolws and Symoniax').

A collection of awdlau and cywyddau written during the second quarter of the seventeenth century by William Phylip. The contents are almost entirely poetical, but the volume also includes transcripts of a treatise on poetical composition by William Middleton (pp. 274-302) and on Welsh metres by John Phillipp [Siôn Phylip] (pp. 303-313). The title page, table of contents and an index of poets are in the hand of Lewis Morris (pp. 1, 3-11, 13-14, 40).

A manuscript entitled 'Immanuel neu Ddirgelwch Cnawdoliaeth mab Duw' in the hand of the Reverend Samuel Williams. The text is a Welsh translation of Archbishop James Ussher's Immanuel: or, The mystery of the incarnation of the Son of God (1638). Samuel Williams ends his text with a citation from the work of the poet Sion Phylip.

The volume has annotations by Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain') who has designated it 'Llyfr Ystrad Alun' and who transcribed some poems from it - see NLW MS 1658.

A volume of 'englynion' entitled 'llyfr wiliam Siôn o fryn saeth', and partly in the hand of David Jones ('Dewi Fardd'). Many of the 'englynion' are unattributed, and the few poets represented in the volume are William Cynwal, Lewis Glyn Cothi, Ellis ap Llew[elyn], Rhys ap Niclas, Sion Philip, Dr. Sion Siengcin, Lewis Menai, Owen Jones ('o dref machynlleth'), Sion Tudur, Thomas Eufan, Ed'd ap Raff, Wm. In a note on the aforementioned 'title-page' (p. 199) Edward Williams claims to have transcribed this collection in 1799 from a manuscript in the possession of Siams Thomas of Maerdy Newydd, co. Glamorgan. Preceding and following the actual text of the collection are transcripts of a prefatory letter dated 1685 (pp. 201-06) and of the concluding note already referred to (p. 390) both of which are attributed to the Glamorgan scribe and copyist Thomas ab Iefan of Tre Bryn as compiler of the manuscript from which Edward Williams was allegedly copying (see TLLM, t. 172; IM, tt. 291-4). Pp. 391-477 contain a transcript of a collection, in alphabetical order, of over three thousand Welsh proverbs attributed to Cattwg Ddoeth ('Llyma Ddiarhebion Cattwg Ddoeth . . . sef yw hwnn Ail Lyfr y Gwyddfardd Cyvarwydd'). This collection, according to the aforementioned note at the end of the preceding section (p. 390) attributed to Thomas ab Iefan, had been compiled by the said Thomas from various sources and formed a continuation of the previous section. Edward Williams's claim with regard to the Siams Thomas volume is probably intended to apply to the contents of pp. 391-477 as well. The contents of pp. 199-390 have been published in The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales . . ., vol. III (London, 1807), pp. 1-99.

A negative photostat facsimile of Welsh MS. 2 in the John Rylands Library, Manchester, being an incomplete early eighteenth century collection of poetry, largely in the form of 'cywyddau', by Sion Philip, Rhisiart Philip, Edmund Price [sic], William Cynwal, Evan Bry[dy]dd hir, Lewis Môn, Sion Cent, Tudyr Aled, David ap Gwillim [sic], David Nanmor [sic] and others. On p. 76 is a text of 'Brenin dlysau ynys Brydai[n]'. Later eighteenth century additions include a certificate of a declaration of an oath by Edd. Vaughan of Lanymowddy, Merioneth, 2 November, 1750, that a red heifer sold at Dinnas Mowddy and the herd from which it is taken are free from the infection now raging among horned cattle in the Kingdom.

Two notebooks in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing transcripts of 'cywyddau', etc. by the following poets: Wiliam Llyn, Huw Llyn, Morys Dwyfech, Lewis Daron, Sion Wyn Owain, Kadwaladr Kesel, Huw Machno, Edmwnd Prys, Sion Philipp, Gruffydd Phylips, Huw Pennant, Lewis Menai, Wiliam Kynwal, Rissiart Philip, Richard Kynwal, Rhus Kain, Howel Reinallt, Sion Brwynog, Watkin Klewedog, Morgan ap Huw Lewis, Inco Brydydd, Dafydd Na[n]mor, Gruffudd Grug, Iolo Goch, Owain Waed da and Llywelyn Goch ap Meurig hên. Nearly all the poems are eulogies of, or elegies on , persons from Llŷn and Eifionydd. On the first page of MS 507 is the following note by J. H. Davies: 'Codwyd o lawysgrif Mr J. Glyn Davies ? Gan Myrddin Fardd' and it seems probable that the contents of MS 507 and the first ten items in MS 508 were transcribed from J. Glyn Davies MS 2 (though not in the same order), perhaps with a view to publication. The remaining poems appear to have been transcribed from various sources, including Cwrtmawr MS 454. Pasted in after the poems in MS 508 are two newspaper cuttings relating to 'Phylipiaid Ardudwy'.

The greater part of the volume is written in a number of artificial or contrived copying hands, the scribe in some instances appearing to simulate a gothic script. The initial capitals of some of the poems have elaborate decorative detail sometimes incorporating the outlines of human figures or faces, the latter mostly grotesques. The volume has been attributed to a Glamorgan or Gwentian copyist of the first half of the seventeenth century (see TLLM, t. 44). If this dating is accepted stanzas such as those by Rhys Prichard probably have to be regarded as later insertions. There are marginal annotations in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg').

Miscellaneous papers and home-made booklets containing transcripts, notes, lists, jottings, etc., in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') bound together in one volume. The contents are extremely varied. Prose items include items such as a brief note on Dafydd ap Gwilym (40), notes relating to Gruffudd ap Cynan and the 'eisteddfod' at Glyn Achlach in Ireland (41-2), a list of 'Constellations in Glam[organ]' (46), a list of 'Rhannau'r Dydd' (47), a version of the tale of Elphin and Taliesin at the court of Maelgwn Gwynedd copied 'Ex 37 P.P.'
