An album of annotated autographs, photographs and engravings, printed matter, press cuttings, etc., compiled during the years 1858-1881. The volume is almost entirely devoted to persons who were prominent in the literary and musical life of Wales during this period, and it appears from internal evidence to have been well known to the compiler's friends and contemporaries. The autographs are largely in the form of personal entries, recorded mainly at national and other eisteddfodau, but there are also a number of mounted holograph letters, 'cut-out' signatures from holograph letters, and franks. One of four volumes comprising three hundred and sixty-four autograph letters and copies and drafts of letters of the period 1787-1930. The two main groups among them are those addressed to 'Nefydd' and Daniel Jones, but there are also two very much smaller groups of letters to Benjamin Jones ('P. A. Môn') and Benjamin Thomas, Baptist minister at Culmstock, Devon, and nephew of Joshua Thomas, Leominster. They are generally of personal, religious, or Baptist interest, although a number of letters addressed to 'Nefydd ' relate also to his educational activities. -- Among the subjects discussed in MSS 7163-6 are British Schools at Penmorfa, Llandygwydd, Devynnock, Llandilo, Abertillery, Llantrisant, Cwmdare, and Five Roads, Llanelly, and appeals for financial assistance for the Baptist churches at Caernarvon, Tenby, Cwmsarnddu, Llanfyllin, and Stanhope Street, Liverpool. Letters from America are chiefly of a denominational character. David Thomas, Llwyn, discusses the reaction in Carmarthenshire to the French Revolution and refers to meetings held at Carmarthen and Llandovery to pledge loyalty to the Government and to burn an effigy of Tom Paine. Inset is a pedigree chart by 'Eben Fardd' entitled 'Llwyth Ceridwen-Gwehelyth Llên ac Awenydd Eifion yn y XIX Ganrif' (references to Owen Owens ('Owain Lleyn'), Robert Williams ('Robt. ap Gwilym Ddu'), Ellis Owen, Cefnymeusudd, Robt. Isaac Jones ('Alltud Eifion'), Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Vardd'), etc.), together with an undated covering letter by the scribe.

An interleaved copy of John Elliot, M.D., The Medical Pocket-Book, The second edition, with additions and corrections (London: printed for J. Johnson, 1784) containing manuscript entries, 1800, by G[riffith] Roberts, junior, surgeon, son of Dr. Griffith Roberts, Dolgelley. It appears that Griffith Roberts was aboard the frigate H.M.S. 'Syren' when it arrived at Spithead with a convoy from the Leeward Islands, 12 January 1800, and the entries relate mainly to his illness in the first quarter of that year. There are brief references to writing to, and hearing from, his father, his brother W[illia]m, and his uncle, W[illia]m Roberts, Oakland [near Llanrwst], and there are copies of three letters written by him from the Royal Hospital, Haslar [Gosport], one addressed to T[homas] Le M[archan]t Gosselin, who was in command of the 'Syren'. Other individuals mentioned are W[illia]m Smith, late surgeon of the 'Syren', Mr. Lara, appointed surgeon to the 'Syren', and Dr. Lind. A note in pencil at the beginning reads 'The Gift of Miss Roberts Lawnt Dolgelley to R. I. Jones, 1847' [i.e. Robert Isaac Jones ('Alltud Eifion')], and another note, also in pencil, facing p. 100, gives the year of birth of H[enry] I[saac] Jones (1844).
