Account of Eifionydd, etc.,

A notebook marked 'Copy No 1' containing an account of the hundred of Eifionydd followed by the beginning of an account of the hundred of Llŷn or Lleyn and a note on 'Dinas a Llys Dinorwig' by Peter Bayley Williams, Llanrug (cf. Y Gwyliedydd, 1835, 310), this last in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). The material on Eifionydd bears a resemblance to 'Hanes Eifionydd' by W. Jones ('Bleddyn'), Llangollen (see Y Geninen, 1883, p. 59; 1884, pp. 69, 300) but the hand is probably that of 'Myrddin Fardd' at an early period of his life. Loose inside, pasted on a card, is a press-cutting concerning Enwau Lleoedd Sir Gaernarfon (see Cwrtmawr MS 564).

A composite volume mainly in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing the names of some Caernarvonshire sheriffs arranged under houses in Llŷn and Eifionydd ('Y Tylwythau o ba rai y penodwyd Siryddion Sir Gaernarfon o Leyn ac Eifionydd'), pedigrees of various Llŷn families (Rhiw, Cefnamwlch, Saethon, Trygarn, Cefnllanfair and Madryn), notes on heraldry ('Arfau Bonedd'), more pedigrees (Nanhoron, Saethon, with a leaf from an older manuscript concerning Saython [sic]), short extracts from Caernarvonshire pedigrees concerning clergymen, etc., 'Traethawd byr, y'nghyd âg adfyfyriadau, ar Ach Iesu Grist .... wedi ei gyfieithu o Ffrangaeg Abb Giraudeau, a chwanegu atto, gan y Parchedig Dr. A. Clarke; a'i droi i'r Gymraeg gan T. Roberts' (printed extract incomplete), 'Arfau Bonedd' (Llŷn families), and a transcript of 'The Pedigree and Genealogy of the Ancient and Worshipfull Family of Jones of Llwyn Onn in the Parish of Wrexham and County of Denbigh collected out of the Books of Owen Salusbury of Rug Esqr. and other Authentick Genealogists by John Salusbury De Erbistock Anno Domini 1675'. Loose in the volume are a letter, ?1903, from the Reverend Evan Evans, Llansadwrn Rectory, Anglesey to 'Myrddin [Fardd'] (the name of a subscriber for the addressee's book, genealogical queries), and holograph verses by [Ebenezer Thomas] 'Eben Fardd' beginning 'Fenywod hawddgar! dowch o'n plaid'. The first section of the manuscript is marked 'Copy No 30'.

Achau, etc.

A composite volume, originally owned by Owen Williams ('Owain Gwyrfai'), Waun-fawr, with copious insets, containing a folio (pp. [655]-656) from Baner Cymru, October 20 1858; a section ('Ordevices', cols 777-840) from William Camden: Britannia (? 1722 edition) with a map of North Wales by Robt. Norden (? from the 1695 edition); two keys to 'Coelbren y Beirdd', the one undoubtedly and the other probably in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'); extensive transcripts of Caernarfonshire and other North Wales pedigrees, mainly in the hands of Owen Williams and John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'); and imperfect notes relating to the history and endowments of the Free School, Dolgellau.

Afonydd Cymru,

A scrap book lettered 'Afonydd Cymru' compiled by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). It contains press cuttings entitled 'Afonydd Cymru' (from Yr Haul, 1870-1, passim), 'Yr Afon Wynion' by 'Glan Wynion', Dolgellau and by 'E' [from Y Cymro], 'Llenyddiaeth yr Afonydd' by 'Idnerth', Buth y Bardd, 'Taith ar hyd Glan yr Afon Ceri, Ceredigion' (incomplete), 'Prif afonydd swyddi Caer yn Arfon a Meirion' by 'Peris'' (from Y Gwyliedydd, May 1833), 'Rhestr o brif lynoedd Cymru', 'Llynoedd Sir Gaernarfon', etc., with annotations and additions in the hand of the compiler.

Arfau Bonedd,

A volume described on the title-page as 'Arfau Bonedd. John Jones Myrddin Fardd Llanystumdwy 1874' containing the coats of arms of various persons and families mainly from Llŷn and Eifionydd, Caernarfonshire, many of them illustrated in colour, others in the form of bookplates. The sources include tombstones and other monuments and the volume is in part complementary to Gleanings from God's Acre (Pwllheli, 1903). There are also a few loose papers, chiefly bookplates, and a letter, year not given, to 'Myrddin Fardd' from (Col.) John (?) F. Owen, Penmaen, Pwllheli (a genealogical query). A list of contents has been compiled and inserted with the manuscript.

'Arfonwyson',

A notebook containing a short account of J[ohn] W[illiam] Thomas ('Arfonwyson; 1805-40) in the autograph of John Jones, ('Myrddin Fardd').

Arms of Llŷn and Eifionydd,

A volume in the hand of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing an armorial of landed families of Llŷn and Eifionnydd. The sources quoted by the compiler include printed publications and inscriptions from the parish churchyards of Abererch, Llanor, Penmorfa, Rhiw, Llandegwning, Bryncroes and Llaniestyn.

Autobiographical material of 'Dic Aberdaron',

A small account-book containing a transcript of manuscript autobiographical material of Richard Robert Jones ('Dic Aberdaron')(cf. NLW Deposit 324A). Loose in the volume is a note from John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), Chwilog to a Mr Davies enquiring about its price as everything relating to 'Dic Aberdaron' is valuable to him. At the reverse end are notes by D[avi]d Davies [cf. Cwrtmawr MS 519], who may be the transcriber of the Dic Aberdaron material. There are also some verses said to be by Josiah Hughes, Trefynon [sic] and John Elias, Môn written in another hand and pasted into the volume.

Morgan, Penrhyndeudraeth (1883), Morris Parry, Chester (1913), 'Dafydd Morganwg' (1874), Edward Breese (1881) and St George Armstrong Williams (1884); and autograph letters to Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd'), Clynnog, John Pughe, Barmouth and others (1840, 1844).

Bardd Treflys MS,

A volume consisting of a notebook which belonged originally to Robert Roberts, Ty mawr, Treflys [Caernarvonshire], 1775, containing mensuration tables, etc. and miscellaneous accounts, c. 1790-1815, mainly in Welsh, by Robert Roberts and one or more of his brothers. Over some of the pages and on additional leaves inserted at the beginning have been pasted cuttings of 'englynion' and other compositions mainly by Richard Roberts ('Bardd Treflys'; 1818-76); there are also some holograph items by Richard Roberts and transcripts by Ellis Owen, Cefn-y-meysydd and by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). The contents include 'Cywydd am fenthig Lanter Mawrth 20 1844' and 'Cân y Palm oil', both by Richard Roberts ('Bardd Treflys').

A small notebook containing hymn stanzas, verses on 'Y pla yn y flwyddyn 1849', lines of verse by W.B. 'sef William Bifan y Gadlys Plwyf Llanwnda' and Hugh Jones, ['Gwyndaf Ieuanc'] Penygroes, Llanwnda, and 'englynion' by [David Davies] 'Tremlyn', one to Evan Jones, Moria, 1890. At the reverse end are notes in the autograph of John Jones ['Myrddin Fardd'] headed 'Hen Ddywediadau - Gwerin-eiriau', with some press cuttings.

Five uniformly bound notebooks numbered 1-5 containing a collection made by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') of the poetical works of Owen Gruffydd, Llanystumdwy (d. 1730), transcribed from Peniarth MS 124 (see 502 and 505), NLW MS 799 and other sources (?NLW MSS 18 and 11816, etc.), together with some printed items and (in 503) a few 'englynion' by William Elias. The lists of contents at the beginning of 503 appear to relate to Cwrtmawr MS 467 and NLW MS 799 respectively.

Cwrt-mawr MS 466B], some dated 1826-8 (26 pp., repaired, incomplete); transcripts in various hands of poetry by [Thomas Williams] 'Twm Pedrog' (torn) and of a cywydd by Dafydd Nanmor; 'Duhuddiant i Eben Fardd a'i deulu ar farwolaeth ei eneth ieuangaf - Elizabeth, Medi - 1858' by [Robert Hughes] 'Robyn Wyn' (?holograph); transcripts of poetical compositions by [Evan Pritchard] 'Ieuan Llyn' or 'Ieuan ap Rhisiart'; part of an exercise-book bearing the names of R. Two notebooks in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing transcripts of 'cywyddau', etc. by the following poets: Wiliam Llyn, Huw Llyn, Morys Dwyfech, Lewis Daron, Sion Wyn Owain, Kadwaladr Kesel, Huw Machno, Edmwnd Prys, Sion Philipp, Gruffydd Phylips, Huw Pennant, Lewis Menai, Wiliam Kynwal, Rissiart Philip, Richard Kynwal, Rhus Kain, Howel Reinallt, Sion Brwynog, Watkin Klewedog, Morgan ap Huw Lewis, Inco Brydydd, Dafydd Na[n]mor, Gruffudd Grug, Iolo Goch, Owain Waed da and Llywelyn Goch ap Meurig hên. Nearly all the poems are eulogies of, or elegies on , persons from Llŷn and Eifionydd. On the first page of MS 507 is the following note by J. H. Davies: 'Codwyd o lawysgrif Mr J. Glyn Davies ? Gan Myrddin Fardd' and it seems probable that the contents of MS 507 and the first ten items in MS 508 were transcribed from J. Glyn Davies MS 2 (though not in the same order), perhaps with a view to publication. The remaining poems appear to have been transcribed from various sources, including Cwrtmawr MS 454. Pasted in after the poems in MS 508 are two newspaper cuttings relating to 'Phylipiaid Ardudwy'.
