Three notebooks in the hand of Hugh Jones ('Erfyl') - (a) an account book containing board and lodging expenses, 1828-33, 1843-4, an account with the Reverend R. M. Bonnor, 1831-2, washing account, 1844, account of lessons given to 'Master Wm. Lowe', 1829-30, 1832, and 'Master Temple', undated, and a list of 'situations' held by 'Erfyl' during the period 1810-30; (b) a 'cywydd' in memory of Owen Jones ('Owain Myfyr')' and (c) transcripts of 'carolau', or parts of 'carolau', by Hugh Jones, Maesglasau ('H. J. Senr.'), Hugh Jones, Llangwm, Ellis Roberts ('y cowper'), William Edwards, Ysceifiog, Thomas Edwards ('Twm o'r Nant'), and others. Used as cover and end papers for the latter are two copies of a printed notice of a meeting of the Llanfyllin New Friendly Society, 1816.

An album of annotated autographs, photographs and engravings, printed matter, press cuttings, etc., compiled during the years 1858-1881. The volume is almost entirely devoted to persons who were prominent in the literary and musical life of Wales during this period, and it appears from internal evidence to have been well known to the compiler's friends and contemporaries. The autographs are largely in the form of personal entries, recorded mainly at national and other eisteddfodau, but there are also a number of mounted holograph letters, 'cut-out' signatures from holograph letters, and franks. The Welsh poems include free- metre verse by Henry Humphreys (Llansilin), John Williams (o Ddymbych), John Cain alias Siôn Ceiriog, Ellis Roberts (o Landdoged), Thomas Edwards ( o'r Nant), David Thomas ['Dafydd Ddu Eryri'] (o sir Gaernarfon), Jonathan Hughes (Pengwern, Llangollen), Walter Davies, Will[ia]m Jones (Llannerchrigog), Daniel Owens (Llannerchrigog), and Humphrey Jones; and 'englymon' by D[avid] Thomas ['Dafydd Ddu Eryri'] and Rob[er]t Williams ['Robert ap Gwilym Ddu'] (Bettws Fawr). A volume containing transcripts of Welsh verse in strict metre (consisting mainly of 'cywyddau') transcribed, October [18]89 - February [18]90, by I[saac] F[oulkes] [newspaper proprietor and publisher]. Many of the poems are annotated to indicate that they were copied out of a volume in the possession of 'W.J.' of Llangollen, and the whole work appears to be an incomplete transcript of NLW MS 670D, which itself consists of a collection of Welsh poems transcribed by William Jones ('Bleddyn'), antiquary, local historian, etc., of Llangollen. A second note on the same page indicates that, similarly, fourteen 'cywyddau' by Tudur Aled had not been transcribed in the present volume, but had been copied into another book, with the intention of publishing these and other poems by the same bard, together with poems by Guto'r Glyn and Sion Tudur. In fact, fourteen 'cywyddau' and four other poems by Tudur Aled, and all of the poems by Guto'r Glyn and Sion Tudur, which appear in NLW MS 670D, have been omitted from the present volume, the presence of poems by the two latter bards in NLW MS 670D being usually indicated by the transcriber by quoting the title, or title and first line, of such works. A note on p. 153 states that eighty ' cywyddau' by Dafydd ap Gwilym [which appeared in William Jones's book, i.e ., NLW MS 670D, pp. 149-263], had been used to correct the published edition of that poet's work ('Yma daw LXXX Cywydd o waith Dafydd ab Gwilym, y rhai a ddefnyddiwyd i gywiro ei waith argraffedig'). These eighty poems, and also five retaliatory poems composed by Gruffydd Grug, in a poetic contention with Dafydd ap Gwilym, and found interspersed among the eighty 'cywyddau', have been omitted from the present volume. A further note on p. 264 states that the last three 'cywyddau' [in NLW MS 670D] had not been copied, as the transcriber believed the text to be so corrupt, that they did not merit transcription. A fly-leaf is marked 'Bk i', and this possibly connects the volume with NLW MS 19313, which, marked on a fly-leaf 'Bk ii', consists of a similar volume of Welsh verse transcribed, March - April [18]90, by I[saac] F[oulkes], again, by inference, from a book in the possession of W[illiam] J[ones].

Most of the transcripts appear to have been made between 1826 and 1831, and the complete work was prepared for the press in 1834 but never published. The material comprises: (a) 'Math ab Mathonwy' (1805); (b) In three series, I 'Pwyll' (two copies, one incomplete), 'Bran the Blessed' [= 'Branwen ferch Llyr'], 'Manawydan', 'Math', II 'Culhwch' (see also N.LW MS 13232E, item 26), 'Peredur', 'Geraint fab Erbin', III 'Iarlles y Ffynnon', 'Breuddwyd Macsen', 'Breuddwyd Rhonabwy', 'Lludd a Llefelys'; (c ) 'Lludd a Llefelys', 'Iarlles y Ffynnon', 'Breuddwyd Rhonabwy', 'Saith Doethion Rhufain', an introduction to the prose texts, 'Trioedd', a discussion of Welsh poetry between 540 A.D. and 1600; (d) a file containing miscellaneous papers: pp. 11-44, notes on numismatics, pp. 45- 53 nine sketches by William Owen [-Pughe] (one in pencil and eight pen and wash) of scenes from the 'Mabinogion', possibly intended to illustrate the artist's translation, p. 54, a printed notice in which William Owen [- Pughe] requests that his name be inserted in the list of voters for co. Denbigh, 1832, and p. 55, a broadside containing Marwnad Evan Thomas, o D' wysog, ym Mhlwyf Henllan; A Gladdwyd yn Nantglyn, ger llaw Dinbych, 1801 by T.E. [?Thomas Edwards, 'Twm o'r Nant'] (Caerlleon: W. C. Jones, n.d.), etc. The following note is to be found on p. 124 of item (c)1 above: 'Gorphenwn hyn, ganoldydd Llun, Myhevin 11. 1827 yn Athrova Iesu, Rhydyçain: y vi yno, pan oedd Aneurin yn çwiliaw cysysgriv [sic] o gyvreithiau Hywel Dda yno', which suggests that the transcript was made from 'Llyfr Coch Hergest'.

A commonplace book kept by Ioan Pedr containing a large number of notes on a variety of subjects; 'englynion', hymns and other poetry; folk- and nursery-rhymes; tales, games and anecdotes relating mainly to Bala and district; a Welsh translation of Shakespeare: Hamlet, Act I, Scene I; notes on sheep ear-marks, with examples and diagrams; lists of poems by Thomas Edwards ('Twm o'r Nant'); biographical, bibliographical and philological notes, including lists of dialect words; inscriptions and epitaphs at Llanycil church; a copy of a letter written 21 September 1828 from Delaware, U.S.A., by John Edwards ('Eos Glan Twrch') to his parents at Tynyfedw, Cynllwyd, Merioneth; etc.
