Durrant in adjusting those wretched differences at Epping - her Ladyship's honourable attempts towards it); seven letters [+] from T[homas] Burgess, successively bishop of St Davids and of Salisbury, one written from C[orpus] C[hristi] C[ollege], Oxford, 1787, to T[homas] Falconer, Esq'r, Chester (thanking him for the present of his little book, requesting the addressee's opinion on the meaning of a passage from the Gospels and quoting from the preface to a second edition of the [Salisbury] spelling-book), two, possibly three, written from Abergwilly Palace and London, 1813-14, to the Reverend T. D.] Fosbrooke, Walford, near Ross (commending the addressee's intention of publishing a 'cheap comment' on the New Testament, he seems to have taken up a very wrong conception of the Bible Society) and three written from Salisbury, 1831, to Mr Strong, bookseller, Bristol (instructions re books, was very sorry to see that the addressee has been a sufferer by the late disastrous events at Bristol); a copy of an engraved portrait of the Right Reverend Thomas Burgess, DD, Lord Bishop of Salisbury; a letter, year not given, from Joseph D[?ownes], Builth to [John Dix] (acknowledging the addressee's most welcome letter belying his wife's guesses, the indirect source of the addressee's recovery from misfortune if not illness, his own writing, mention of Edinburgh, etc.); a note, 1811, from Mr Pennant, Downing to a Mrs Williams (complying with her request on behalf of Hugh Shone and his aged wife); a list by J. Davies headed 'Myrddin MSS (1) Eben Fardd'; and a bundle of miscellaneous papers [#] including 'Eifionydd', a holograph poem in Welsh by E[benezer] Thomas ('Eben Fardd'), Clynnog, 22 July 1829; 'Myfyrdawd y Bardd am ei gariad pan oedd hi yn mordwo o Ynys Fôn i Fanaw' by Rhobt Huws ('Rhobin ddu o Fôn'); one or two items probably in the autograph of the Reverend Peter Bailey Williams (English verse, a draft of a letter [to the editors of the Welsh Magazine], etc.), 'An Infentory of Coods & Cattells of Mr Morgan ap Ragnard ap Maddocke of te County of Clamorganshire shentilman ...', endorsed 'The Welch Inventory', and miscellaneous documents, 1588-1767, including a bond, 1588, relating to properties within the township of Llanvair in the commot of Iscor', Caernarfonshire, a citation, 1652, relating to the administration of the goods of Richard Thomas [? of Talgarth, Breconshire], a grant, 1734, relating to Bryn y Fedwen estate in the parish of Llanrug, Caernarfonshire, and a return, 1767, by Edward Watkins, curate, certifying that there are no Papists within his parish of Llangaffo or Llangeinwen, Anglesey. The items marked + were formerly Phillipps MS 35051 (see letter dated 9 February 1973 from Dr A. N. L. Munby to the Keeper of Manuscripts, National Library of Wales). # - The wrapping paper has on it 'Phillipps MSS 34929' in pencil in the autograph of J. H. Davies but, with the exception of the 'inventory of goods', the contents of this package do not appear to correspond to the description of Phillipps MS 34929 as given by Dr Munby in his letter, although Phillipps MS 34929 was purchased by J. H. Davies.

A composite volume in the autograph of Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd') containing a summary of the main events of his life, 1802-58, notes concerning Goronwy Owen, David Thomas ('Dafydd Ddu Eryri') and David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion'), various accounts and memoranda, partly in pencil, including the following: 'Sepr 17 1844 Received from Mr Hugh Humphreys 144 copies (Printed) of my 'Harvest Hymns' 2/6. Distributed as follows ...', and 'Dr. Burton's Theory of the Millenium', lines entitled 'Contemplation on a River's Bank (From Eben Fardd)' by 'Bl. ab C.....n [i.e. a translation of 'Myfyrdod ar lan afon'], notes of an address or sermon in Welsh on education, and notes on the Hebrew alphabet, etc.

Cwrtmawr MS 412), a letter from Ellis Anwyl Owen to John Thomas ['Siôn Wyn o Eifion'], Chwilog, 1841 (the date of baptism of David Owen ('Dewi Wyn'), and a request to the addressee with regard to the date of death of '- Parry Bach Solicitor'), a copy of Yr Araith Satanaidd ar Eglwysi Sefydledig a Degymau (Caernarfon: Josiah Thomas Jones, 1835), and a translation into Welsh by R. Ivor Parry of the will of David Owen ['Dewi Wyn o Eifion'], 13 June 1837.

A composite volume containing poetical compositions in strict and free metre by, and in the autograph of, Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd'). The wording on the title-page of the first part of the volume is 'Cyfansoddion Barddonol gan Ebenezer Thomas, Clynnog. 1843' but some of the items in the section are later than this date. The remainder of the manuscript appears to consist of two other sections, the one containing miscellaneous poems, some dated, c. 1833-60, the other containing 'Y Cleopiad', 1847, and a number of 'englynion'. Alterations and interlineations have been made in some of the poems. Besides the Welsh poems - many of which, though not all, are included in Gweithiau Barddonol, &c. Eben Fardd [?1873] - the volume contains a few items of English verse. There are also one or two printed items, including a sheet of harvest hymns entitled 'Hymnau Cynauaf' by Ebenezer Thomas, 1843 (Caernarfon: Argraffwyd gan James Rees).

A composite volume largely in the autograph of Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd') containing pedigrees (John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') has marked some items, e.g. Llwynhelyg, Cwningaer, Robert ab Gwilym Ddu, John Wynn Morris of Wmwlch & Tyddyn Mawr); lines of verse (?incomplete) beginning 'My friend and I, on one autumnal morn ...' containing a reference to visiting John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion'); the beginning of a translation of 'Awdl Elusengarwch' (Dewi Wyn [o Eifion]) under the title 'Charity'; a copy of a letter, 1854, from Ebenezer Thomas to the Reverend M. Rice Morgan, Pengwern, near Swansea (a claim for postage expenses in connection with the Treforys Eisteddfod); 'Englynion Wrth ganfod Eben Fardd. Awst 20 1853' by 'Maccwy' [?Robert Roberts, 'Macwy Môn']; diary entries, 2 May - 10 September 1858, relating to the illness and death of Elizabeth, youngest daughter of 'Eben Fardd'; a letter, 1852, from William Evans, Llandwrog to Ebenezer Thomas, sending a copy of some lines of verse by the writer entitled 'Hail, Clynnog Fawr'; a note concerning Goronwy Owen and his descendants in America based on letters in Yr Herald Cymraeg, 10 July 1858; accounts in connection with 'Y Seat Ganu', 1859-62; notes for essays or addresses (e.g. 'Ystyriaethau ar ddydd diolchgarwch am y cynhauaf yn 1856 (Medi 30)'); notes on temperance; a transcript by E. Vardd [sic] of the comments in the Carnarvon & Denbigh Herald, 12 January 1856, on his lecture at the Hope Hall, Liverpool on January 2; observations on, 'Church Discipline' and a note concerning a [C.M.] Mo[nthly] Meeting at Brynaera, 7 September 1845; an adjudication (beginning wanting) of the poetical compositions submitted for competition at a [Merthyr] Eisteddfod, [Christmas Day, 1850] (see Seren Gomer, 1851, p. 45); and an adjudication of the poetical compositions at the Denbigh Eisteddfod, 1860. Interpersed are items of poetry by Eben Fardd, some in the form of press-cuttings, together with some loose papers (e.g. a copy of a letter to the editor of the Carnarvon and Denbigh Herald, [1849], and a list of 'Friends and correspondents') and printed matter (e.g. circulars relating to a proposed testimonial to [David Williams] 'Alaw Goch', and to the Aberffraw Eisteddfod of 1849). The volume also contains one or two entries in the hand of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd').

The press cuttings are taken from a variety of local and national newspapers, e.g., Monmouthshire Merlin, Merthyr Guardian, Hereford Times, Seren Cymru, Seren Gomer, Illustrated Times, Morning Post, The Times, The Observer, etc., and items of Welsh interest include accounts of coronation festivities at Abergavenny, 1831, and of the loss of the 'Rothsay Castle', 1831; a list of literary and musical competitions arranged by 'Cymreigyddion yr Alarch', Merthyr Tydfil, undated; accounts of the opening of the Crumlin Viaduct, 1857, of the destruction of the South Wales Railway bridge over the river Usk at Newport, 1848, and of the colliery explosion at Risca, 1860; and a mass of poetry by contemporary local bards. NLW MS 12355F contains two engraved portraits of the Reverend Francis Hiley, Llanwenarth, and at the end of the same manuscript are some additional press cuttings mounted by Lady H. A. Robinson, relating largely to the death of King Edward VII. The outside upper covers are labelled respectively 'Caradawc's Scrap Book No. 1' and 'Caradawc's Scrap Book No. 2'.
