Elizabeth] by Thomas ap Richard of Bwlch y Beydu, Denbighshire, gent., in a dispute between David ap Rees ap gruffith lloyd of Llanrwst, yeo[man], William ap Rees ap gruff lloyd of Scrogennan, and Low[ ] ... widow, mother of the said William, relating to messuages and lands in Llanddoged and Gwytherin, late of Rees ap gruff lloyd deceased; a lease for life, temp. Elizabeth, from Richard lloid of Sweney, Salop, gent., to Richard Burley of the same, yeo[man], of mays yr hen westyn in Sweney.

The original collection of Welsh Airs compiled and arranged by 'Orpheus' [James James] for the Llangollen Eisteddfod of 1858 (ff. 1-29 verso). Further Welsh airs, all arranged by Isalaw, dated July-August 1888 and in a different hand, are on ff. 30-34.
On f. 23 is the second extant manuscript appearance of 'Glan Rhondda' (Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau), the first being in NLW, Evan James MS 1. Music manuscripts, notebooks, papers relating to the National Museum of Wales and the University of Wales, and other miscellaneous material belonging to Dr Mary Davies (1855-1930) and her husband, W. Cadwaladr Davies (1849-1905). Amongst the papers is a later copy of a collection of Welsh airs, compiled and arranged by 'Orpheus' [James James] for the Eisteddfod at Llangollen, 1858 (now NLW Minor Deposit 150B).

The letters concern various aspects of the Eisteddfod arrangements, including fundraising, the tent, accommodation, competitions, adjudicators, prizes, music, advertising and publicity. Many letters, especially from Ab Ithel's friends, also concern a variety of other matters. A single letter, from Edward A. Freeman, Dursley, is dated 25 October 1850 (ff. 1-2).

Nineteen letters, 1857-1858, to the Rev. John Williams (Ab Ithel), most of which relate to the Llangollen Eisteddfod, 1858. Among the correspondents are John Ceiriog Hughes (Ceiriog), Robert John Pryse (Gweirydd ap Rhys), William Rees (Gwilym Hiraethog) and Morris Wiliams (Nicander).

A scrap-book inferentially compiled by John Lloyd Jones ('Clwydwenfro'; 1835-1919) containing press cuttings and a few manuscript items. Some of the cuttings are dated within the 1850s-1870s and among the more interesting titles are 'Hynodion Cwm Rhondda .... Testyn Cystadleuol Eisteddfod y Porth, Nadolig, 1861'; 'Collegiate and University Education in Wales'; 'Llythyr oddiwrth y Parch. Morris Phillips, Cenhadwr i India'; 'Teyrnged i Goffadwriaeth Ioan Pedr'; 'Beirniadaeth ar Gyfansoddiadau Barddonol Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Aberdar, Awst 1861'; 'Llangollen Great National Eisteddfod' [1858]; 'Y Ffrwydriad yn Abercarn'; 'Sketches of Cardiff Preachers'; etc. The manuscript material comprises a tale entitled 'The Bride of Santa Croce', 19 November 1856, described in an annotation by J. Ll. James as 'the composition of the late John Griffith Davies (son of the Rev. J. Davies ['Siôn Gymro'], Glandwr, Pembrokeshire) who wrote it and sent it to John Lloyd James, then a student at Carmarthen College, that he might fill up the outline', and verses entitled 'Y Messiah', etc. addressed to John Ll. James, Berllandawel, Llanglwydwen and annotated in the latter's hand 'J. G. Davies, Yetwen, pan yn Narberth', etc. The outer upper cover is inscribed, in the hand of J. H. Davies, 'Articles and poetry from Cyfaill y Werin and other papers'.

Papers relating to Welsh activities in Liverpool, including a minute book, 1856-1857, and other papers relating to the Liverpool Cambrian Society (founded 1807); notices of a proposed circulating library at Seacombe in connection with the Calvinistic Methodist Sunday Schools, 1858, of a 'Welsh Bardic Congress' held at Liverpool, 1851, and of the Liverpool committee for promoting the Llangollen eisteddfod, 1858; a list of subscriptions to the 'Llewelyn Monument', 1857; Welsh translations by D. G. Jones, Liverpool of English poetry; press cuttings; etc.
