Ray Howard-Jones: 1983 Retrospective Exhibition

Material relating to a biographical essay by Moira Vincentelli on the Pembrokeshire-based painter and poet Ray Howard-Jones, produced for a touring retrospective exhibition of Ray Howard-Jones' work organised by Moira Vincentelli on behalf of the West Wales Association for the Arts and which commenced in Haverfordwest in September 1983. The material includes manuscript and typewritten drafts of the essay; biographical notes in the hand of Ray Howard-Jones; correspondence, including letters to/from Ray Howard-Jones and Moira Vincentelli and draft circular letter from Moira Vincentelli requesting details of works to be exhibited at the 1983 retrospective exhibition, together with replies to these requests; copies of poetry by Ray Howard-Jones; printed exhibition booklets and postcards; and press release relating to the retrospective exhibition of Ray Howard-Jones' work held at the Rocket Press, Blewbury, Oxfordshire in July 1993.

Typescript letters

The file comprises three incomplete typescript letters from David Jones, a single page of the typescript text of an article by him entitled 'Ray Howard-Jones : An Introduction' (The Anglo-Welsh Review, vol. 17, no. 39 (Summer 1968) pp. 53-4) and a fragment of typescript. One of these letters, all of which appear to have been intended for publication, concerns the Mabinogion (1950), another is a St David's day message (1960) and the third appears to have arisen from a review of The Great North Road (London, 1961) by Frank Morley (1961).
