Pethick v. Vale of Glamorgan Railway, &c.,

Material, 1897-1900, relating to the case of John Pethick & Pethick Bros of Plymouth v. the Vale of Glamorgan Railway Company, the arbitrator in the case being Sir James Weeks Szlumper, and including: printed material, May-December 1900, relating to the court case, with further handwritten, typewritten and printed reports, statements, accounts, etc.; a copy of Sir Benjamin Baker's report, 1898, on the Porthkerry Viaduct; and a printed claim, April 1900, of the Vale of Glamorgan Railway Company against John Pethick and Pethick Bros, with a handwritten amended claim, May 1900. The volume also includes a printed contract, 1894, of the Vale of Glamorgan Railway Company, including accounts, some of which are filled in by hand, together with hand written specifications, accounts, etc., 1895; a typewritten transcript of another court case, 1898, involving the Vale of Glamorgan Railway Company; copies of correspondence, 1897-1900, between the Vale of Glamorgan Railway Company and the Railway Department of the Board of Trade; and a printed copy of the 1889 Vale of Glamorgan Railway Act.

Material, 1898-1899, relating to the case of James Nuttall of Manchester v. the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Company, the arbitrator in the case being Sir James Weeks Szlumper, and including printed and handwritten transcripts of court proceedings and printed and handwritten statements, with annotations.

Printed copies of the Devon and Cornwall Central Railway Company (Plymouth and Devonport Extension) Bill 1883, with estimations of related costs, 1882; printed and handwritten transcripts of Parliamentary proceedings relating to the Bill; printed and handwritten petitions against the Bill, including petitions from the London & South Western Railway Company, the Great Western Railway Company and the mayor, aldermen and burgesses of the borough of Devonport; other printed material relating to the Bill.

Central Land Board,

The series contains papers, 1946-1957, relating to the Trust's applications to the Central Land Board, which were required in advance of any land development under the Town and Country Planning Act (1947), together with a pamphlet, 1923, about the housing of Great Western railwaymen in London.

Preece, for the Great Western Railway New Swindon Mechanics Institution, to Mr. Hanty (thanks to Mr. [Harry H.] Davies for the gift of a drawing); 'half-yearly report of conduct; or, lady's school register' of Miss F[lorence] M[ary] Davies, 1870; the return of the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the parish of Rumney, Monmouthshire, 1901; a short pedigree of the family of Edmunds of Rumney, and of the family of Davies of Rompney Castle, with whom they intermarried; and two school arithmetic books, one of which belonged to Miss Hannah Edmunds and contains in addition some copies of her accounts, etc., 1879-1886 and undated.
