Board of Education Records

This section comprises correspondence, papers and records accumulated by O. M. Edwards as Chief Inspector of Schools in Wales under the new Welsh Department of the Board of Education from 1907. It consists of correspondence files; notebooks recording details of Edwards's visits to Welsh schools; a register of visits, 1909-1910; and two reports on Welsh education, 1892 and 1911, prepared by O. M. Edwards.

Diaries, commonplace books, scrapbooks and notebooks

This section comprises diaries kept by O. M. Edwards, 1876-1920, (mostly pocket diaries containing only brief notes of appointments and engagements); notebooks and commonplace books, 1875-1919, which he kept either as a student or later as a Fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford, containing a wide range of notes; and notebooks, 1876-[c.1900], kept by him as a student and Oxford don. They contain notes on a wide range of academic subjects and a few scriptural and sermon notes.

Financial records

This section comprises mainly pass books, 1880-1917, on bank accounts mainly in the name of Owen Morgan Edwards.

Letters to O. M. Edwards

This section comprises general letters to O. M. Edwards, 1880-1920, many from prominent Welsh individuals (some congratulating him upon receiving a knighthood in January 1916), and groups of letters from the principals of the Welsh university colleges, 1884-1916, from Oxford dons, 1884-1917, from Welsh public figures,1885-1920, many of them personal friends of O. M. Edwards, and from many prominent Welsh poets and ministers of religion, 1886-1920.

Miscellaneous papers

The section consists of miscellaneous, mainly stray, items acquired mainly by O. M. Edwards during the course of his life and career. They include letters; civil registration certificates; academic certificates and distinctions; tributes to Edwards upon his death in 1920; local history materials relating to Llanuwchllyn; miscellaneous notes; printed items and press cuttings.

Papers of Ellen Edwards

The group consists of letters, 1887-1918, from Ellen Edwards to her husband O.M. Edwards, her children Ifan and Haf, and her mother-in-law. There are also letters, 1888-1918, to her from friends, acquaintances and neighbours. By far the most important letters are those from Ellen to her husband.

The group comprises mainly letters from Ifan ab Owen Edwards to his parents, his sister Haf, and other members of his family, 1906-1920, together with letters addressed to Ifan, 1905-1918, and his school and university notes.

Papers relating to publishing and publications

The section includes bankbooks, 1892-1920, relating to accounts for the publication of journals edited by O. M. Edwards; notebooks, 1893-1919, containing circulation figures for journals and lists of subscribers to books and journals; correspondence files, 1894-1921, with a number of Welsh publishers; and files of material submitted for publication in Cymru and Cymru'r Plant, 1897-1917.
