An unframed painting in which a farmer and dog walk toward the artist through a gateway in a stone wall. Behind them in the centre left of the painting are the roof, chimneys and gable end of a whitewashed cottage. The eye is led to the cottage by another stone wall that starts in the lower right of the canvas.
