Letters, press cuttings, transcripts and associated papers collected by Sir Evan D. Jones (1859-1949), of Pentower, Fishguard, relating to the French Invasion of 1797 and to the North Pembrokeshire Local Militia. The correspondents, 1925-1931, include Professor David Salmon, Iltid E. Thomas, J. Kyrle Fletcher and Lord St Davids.

Pembrokeshire notes

The file comprises a list, 1972, of Pembrokeshire historians drawn up by Francis Jones, with additions by Dr B. G. Charles; notes on the field names and occupiers of Tresinwen where he was brought up; together with press cuttings of Pembrokeshire interest, 1931-1937, and a souvenir edition of 'The story of Fishguard Harbour' reprinted from The County Echo, September 1956, and notes, [1926]-[1930], in the hand of Professor George Norman Garmonsway relating to the Anglo-Saxon poem 'The Dream of the Rood'.

Pen-and-ink drawings by Margaret Ellen James and Alec Carruthers Gould, most of them connected with the Fishguard invasion of 1797, and some being reproduced in The Fishguard Invasion by the French in 1797 ... .

The file includes radio scripts, 1937-1939, which were co-written by Dr B. G. Charles and his colleagues Francis Jones and B. G. Owens, comprising 'Pebidiog Paradwys Penfro', 1937, 'Cwrs clera', 1937, 'Glaniad y Ffrancod yn Abergwaun', 1938, 'Cemais', 1939, 'Morladron Cymru', 1939; together with notes relating to a programme 'A manner of speaking', 1952; notes about farm names for a BBC radio broadcast; a script 'Pynciau'r Tir', 1965, which Dr B. G. Charles took part in and enquiries received by him as a result of this broadcast relating to farm names; a letter, 1972, relating to a farm called 'Ty Bôl' in Edeyrn, Caernarfonshire, which was featured on the programme 'Pynciau'r Tir'; and notes, [1937-1972], for an unidentified programme on place-names.

A rent roll of lands in Hauerfford west to be inserted in the estate 'for the erecting and may[n]teyning of the ffree schole', together with a covering letter, 18 October 1613, from Thomas Lloyd, Kilkethed, to John Skinner, esq., mayor of the town and county of Hauerfford west; draft rentals of the estates of John James, Esq. [Pantsaeson], in the parishes of Monington, St. Dogmells, Moylgrove, and Bayvill, 1809-1810; pedigrees of the families of Cornwallis of Abermarles, co. Carmarthen, 1721, of David of Blaenllechog, parish of Llangolman, co. Pembroke, 1823, and of Rice of Tyhen [parish of Llandysilio East], co.
