The file comprises manuscript drafts of prose writings. Many of these drafts appear to be of letters from David Jones to private correspondents. Amongst the subjects discussed are various matters of Welsh interest (ff. 2-15, with two drafts concerning Saunders Lewis), and the relationship between the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and the Mass and between the nature of the Mass and the nature of art. There is one draft of what appears to be the end of a letter to Petra Tegetmeier (née Gill).

The file comprises miscellaneous manuscript notes and drafts by David Jones, including a poem entitled 'Isys' dated 12 September 1956 (f. 2) and a poem entitled 'The Heart of Time' (f. 3), a complete letter to Sister Ursula, 1967 (f. 21), and to Saunders Lewis, 1967 (f. 22). There is also a proof copy of a poem by René Hague (f. 5).

The file comprises letters and post cards to David Jones from A. S. Hartrick, Rex Nan Kivell, Tom Burns, Janet Stone, Sir Kenneth Clark, Aneirin Talfan Davies, Harman Grisewood, Illtud Evans, Moelwyn Merchant, Anthony Steel, Saunders Lewis, Christopher Dawson, William Hayward, Bryn Griffiths, Colin Hughes, Nancy Sandars, August Closs, [Arthur Giardelli], E.V.C. Plumptre, Jack Sweeney and others.

The file comprises scripts of three broadcasts concerning David Jones and his work: a review of an exhibition of his paintings in Edinburgh, 21 November 1954; a review of The Anathemata, 19 December 1952; and a talks feature entitled 'David Jones', compiled and introduced by Goronwy Rees and with contributions by T. S. Eliot, Saunders Lewis, Nicolette Gray and Gwyn Williams, 29 Oct. 1954, produced by Aneirin Talfan (two copies of the script, one corrected by David Jones).

The file comprises typescript, manuscript and printed copies of poems by various authors (in many cases the author's name is not noted). Includes a typescript copy of a poem by Peter Levi entitled 'Thirty ways of drowning in the sea', with a letter from Alasdair Clayre at All Souls College, Oxford, dated 17 Sept. 1965, asking David Jones whether he would like 'a drawing or two drawings of yours to be used as illustrations for a limited edition of this poem?' (for drafts of a reply to this letter see A2/1), and typescript copies of poems by Charles Madge ('The Storming of the Brain', dated 2 July 1950), Dylan Thomas ('Elegy'), Saunders Lewis ('The Choice', translated by R. Wynne), Stefan George ('Come in the Park described as dead and see', translated by Vernon Watkins and signed by him), William Hayward, Herbert Read, and a translation of 'Wales' by Gwenallt Jones.

The file comprises papers found in the Library of David Jones which was deposited at the National Library of Wales in 1975 (see The Library of David Jones. A Catalogue, 1995). Typescript and manuscript copies of political essays and letters by John Legonna, many of them written for publications such as 'Baner ac Amserau Cymru', 'Wales' and 'Catalyst', with related press cuttings and letters, concerning Welsh and Celtic nationalism, the New Nation Group, Plaid Cymru, Welsh history, pacifism, the border of Wales and England, the border of Cornwall and England, Breton nationalism, Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg, the U.S.S.R. and its relations with Germany, and the relationships of Capitalism, Communism, Socialism, Fascism, Nationalism and Christianity, including a review of Ned Thomas, 'The Welsh extremist: a culture in crisis', and some observations on Saunders Lewis and Julian Cayo Evans, together with an invitation to Legonna to speak on national reconstruction at the Oxford Union, 1944, a review by John Davies of Plaid Cymru's performance in an Abertillery by-election, the agenda of a Welsh nationalist conference held at Caernarfon, 1943, a copy of the Liberal Review, 1944, and a notice of Labour Party meetings in Penryn and Falmouth.

A scrapbook of material relating to William Thomas ('Islwyn'), including press cuttings, etc., in connection with negotiations for the purchase and restoration of his birthplace at Tŷ'r Agent, Ynys-ddu, 1925-1926, and press cuttings, correspondence (addressed to A. W. Games, Cwmfelin-fach), printed matter, photographs, labels attached to relics and personalia, and a balance sheet, in connection with centenary celebration meetings held in 1932 at Cwmfelin-fach and Ynys-ddu. The correspondents include Timothy Rees, bishop of Llandaff, Joseph Bradney, Saunders Lewis, Ifan ab Owen Edwards and John Kyrle Fletcher.

Autograph drafts or texts of prose pieces, 1945-1970s, of miscellaneous provenance, by twentieth-century writers, mostly published. They include short stories: 'Tedi' by Harri Pritchard Jones, 'Cyfri Bysedd' by Marged Pritchard, and 'Yr Wylan Deg' by Kate Roberts; and two addresses, 'Y Broses Greadigol' and 'Saunders Lewis' by John Gwilym Jones, both published in 'Y Traethodydd'.

Messages from Saunders Lewis, D. J. Williams and Lewis Valentine to the Welsh Nationalist Party newspaper Y Ddraig Goch, September 1937, following their release from prison after serving a sentence for the arson attack at the bombing-school at Penyberth; together with a note from Lewis Valentine to Morris T. Williams and his wife, Kate Roberts.

Autograph fair copies of 'Mewn Gward Ysbyty (Mr Michaeliones)' by E. Tegla Davies, 'Cathod mewn ocsiwn' by Kate Roberts, 'Ni Thawodd y Bytheiaid' by D. J. Williams, all published in Taliesin 1 (1961), and 'Darparu Yng Nghymru', an article by Saunders Lewis, with revision and sub-headings by Gwilym R. Jones, published in Baner ac Amserau Cymru, 5 June 1940, under the title 'Dylifiad Noddedigion i Gymru'.

The file comprises manuscript drafts of letters from David Jones to some of his dearest friends: René Hague, Valerie Wynne Williams (and to her mother Mrs Price), Harman Grisewood, Helen Sutherland, Tom Burns, Jim Ede, Morag [McLennan], and Saunders Lewis.

Over a hundred and fifty letters, 1961-88 in English, Welsh and French, from various correspondents (surnames Jones-W). The letters, some of which include fair copies of published poems, are chiefly concerned with contemporary writing in Wales in both English and Welsh and with the recipient's work as editor of a number of volumes in this field. The correspondents include Glyn Jones (36, and three poems) 1967-86, Gwyn Jones (6) 1967-87, Saunders Lewis (1) 1974, Roland Mathias (17) 1961-86, Leslie Norris (32, and one poem) 1967-86, Eigra Lewis Roberts (2) 1970-3, R. S. Thomas (1) 1975, John Tripp (8) 1968-78, Harri Webb (14) 1967-79, and Kyffin Williams (8) 1970-1.

The file comprises thirty letters to Sam Adams mainly relating to Poetry Wales, from Euros Bowen (2), Alun Talfan Davies (2), Aneirin Talfan Davies (2), Pennar Davies (1), Idris Foster (1), Bobi Jones (1), Bedwyr Lewis Jones (2), Saunders Lewis (1), A. G. Prys-Jones (3), Ned Thomas (4) and Gwyn Williams (11).

A note, 1926, in the hand of A[rthur] Foulkes-Roberts, highly critical of Saunders Lewis, pasted on a printed review by the latter of Cywyddau Iolo Goch ac Eraill, ed. by Henry Lewis, et al. (1925), which appeared in Y Llenor, October 1926.
