The Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 administered the educational funds accruing from the surplus of the Great Exhibition. It managed the great educational complex in its estate in Kensington (Imperial College, Museums, etc.), awarded post-graduate studentships for research in science and naval architecture, granted Industrial Bursaries, and travelling schollarships to the British School at Rome, which was reorganised by the Commissioners, and afforded assistance to educational institutions. The collection consists almost entirely of official minutes, memos, reports, etc. Scholarship holders, accountants, etc., are not indexed.
