Manuscript and typescript drafts, some incomplete, [?1989]-1991, of A wider sky (Llandysul, 1991); together with a copy of the galley proofs, 1991, for the Introduction and the chapter relating to France; an agreement, 1991, between the author and the publisher; and a bookseller's catalogue, 1993, in which the work is listed.

14 b&w photos used in the publication 'Across the Straits' (Gerald Duckworth & Company, 1973) by Kyffin Williams. Most of the photographs are portraits of family members, either reproduced from artworks or from photographs. Includes a number of duplicates.

Manuscript and typescript drafts, some incomplete, [?1970]x[?1993], of his autobiographical work, Across the Straits (London (1973), & Llandysul (1993)). The file also includes related notes; corrected galley proofs; a typescript review of the book, in Welsh and English, by Derec Llwyd Morgan, together with printed reviews, 1973. Cuttings of Kyffin Williams' recollections of Ynysfor, published in Architecture Wales [?1965], are inserted amongst the sixth chapter of the first manuscript draft.

The artworks depicted cover the whole breadth of his artistic career and include portraits, landscapes, oil paintings, watercolours, posters etc. Most of the artworks depicted are available elsewhere in the collection.

Artworks 5

Album containing 5 photographs of early works by Kyffin Williams. Three are dated in pencil on the album page 1943, 1944, 1946. Two are undated. Many others have been removed at some point prior to arrival at NLW and may be elsewhere in the collection. Two of the artworks are landscapes, one a study of a horse and two are portraits including that of Gwilym Owen from 1944.

Album bound in black and with black pages containing 27 photographs / reproductions of works by Kyffin Williams. Also four photos of him in his studio ca.1965.

Two magnetic albums each containing reproductions of KW's works. Most are cut from exhibition flyers/catalogues and other publications. Very few are actual photographs. They are overwhelmingly of his better known artworks. There is a certain amount of duplication between the two albums.

C19th Family Album

Personal photographs in the form of a C19th photo album containing photographs (20 cabinet cards, 166 cartes de visite, 5 smaller images) of JKW’s ancestors and family members. Included are members of the Ramsay & Williams families.This album appears to have descended from the Tre-ffos side of KWs family. It is evident that at some point some photographs have been removed and placed back in the incorrect place. Therefore all annotations in this album should be treated with a degree of caution.

Certificates,

Various certificates, 1934-2001, including those awarded to Kyffin Williams as a student at the Slade School of Fine Arts; Honorary Degrees and Fellowships; and a copy of his birth certificate, 1999. A certificate for drawing from the Slade, 1943-1944, contains a pencil sketch of a man's face on the reverse.

Charles Tunnicliffe,

Papers, 1974-[1983], consisting mainly of correspondence and documents, 1979-1982, relating to the Charles Tunnicliffe estate and the dispersal of the Tunnicliffe collection, including a photocopy of his will, 1969. The file also contains an undated typescript, with manuscript amendments in Kyffin Williams's hand, of a tribute to the artist; a catalogue to accompany the Tunnicliffe 'Bird Drawings' exhibition at the Royal Academy, 1974, which includes an article on the artist by Kyffin Williams; together with galley proofs of the catalogue containing amendments in Kyffin Williams's hand.

Contracts,

Papers, 1987-2004, mostly comprising contracts, agreements and letters relating to the loan and donation of paintings by, and owned by, Kyffin Williams to galleries and exhibitions; television and radio interviews; and the transfer of copyright ownership to Oriel Ynys Môn of works by Kyffin Williams held at the gallery, 1994.

Cutting images,

Four surplus copies of a folded leaf, including the title page, from the Gwasg Gregynog publication, Cutting images : a selection of linocuts by Kyffin Williams (Newtown, 2002), one of which includes two limericks in the author's hand. Also included is a copy of a prospectus for the book.
