`A Welsh Causerie'

The series comprises press cuttings relating to Welsh culture, nationalism and language, politics, eminent figures, literature, history, rural crafts, folklore and legends, customs, natural history, scenery, preachers, eisteddfodau and music.

Antiquarian interest

The series includes letters, typescripts and manuscript copies of articles of antiquarian interest, including letters of Thomas Edwards, accumulated by HFJ for his lecture notes and newspaper articles.

Eisteddfodau

The series comprises correspondence relating to the unsuccessful bid to hold the National Eisteddfod in Colwyn Bay in 1933. It includes copies of the published invitation by the Colwyn Bay District and suggestions for literary competition subjects. Also includes some material relating to local eisteddfodau.

Family correspondence

The series comprises correspondence between HFJ and Ann Ellen Williams, 1899-1933; correspondence relating to Ann's career, 1893-1899, and letters of sympathy to her following the death of her husband, 1949-1950. Also included is other family correspondence, 1894-1957, including letters to their daughter, Gwerfyl.

General lecture material

The series comprises notes on Welsh history, politics, religion and literature for various classes, together with copies of talks and speeches given to organisations and societies.

Interests and career

The series comprises membership cards and programmes of various societies which were accumulated by HFJ; his application for the postition of librarian with the Denbighshire Education Authority, 1920; engagement diary, 1922, and manuscript transcripts of his birth and marriage certificates.

The series comprises articles by, or concerning, HFJ, 1889-1962, relating to his work as a lecturer for a Workers' Education class on Welsh literature and history, Yr Aelwyd', and also concerning cultural and political topics, biographies and obituaries, customs folklore and gypsies,A Cymric Causerie' and eisteddfodau.

Patagonia

The series comprises material relating to the Welsh Colonial and General Trading Company Limited, the aim of which was to raise funds to send people to the Welsh Colony in Patagonia. It includes share certificates in the company and letters from D Lloyd Jones, Secretary.

The series comprises lectures, notes and correspondence relating to meetings, the publication of articles by HFJ in Y Ddraig Goch, contributions to a fund on behalf of Saunders Lewis, D J Williams and Lewis Valentine, and towards party finance.

The series comprises letters from the BBC and individuals relating to 'Hen Blasau Dyffryn Clwyd' broadcast, May 1936, together with handwritten and typed drafts of the script; typed scripts for other radio programmes relating to local history and gypsies, broadcast 1940-47; list of forthcoming radio features, including a talk by Gypsy Petulengro.
