Constituency papers

The series comprises correspondence and papers relating to Labour Party organization in East Flintshire mainly during Eirene White's tenure of the constituency from 1950 to 1970, many deriving from the general election campaigns of 1950 to 1966. A few of the papers concern political life in the old Flintshire constituency, notably Eirene White's abortive candidature in the general election of July 1945.

Correspondence

The series comprises general letters to Eirene White, 1928-1999, a small group of drafts and copies of letters from her, 1936-1995, a few stray letters, 1947-1985, and a few files of letters on specific themes, 1989-1995. The letters follow the course of Eirene White's career, her political posts and other interests. There is a mingling of political and personal letters. The correspondents include many prominent politicians and public figures.

Diaries

The pocket diaries contain only brief notes of appointments and engagements. Some also have notes of names and addresses and other general notes by Lady White.

Domestic politics

The series comprises correspondence and papers relating to political subjects, among them social services, the House of Lords, pensions, housing, regionalism and metrication. Several of the files relate to the Labour Party.

The series comprises notebooks kept by Dr Thomas Jones, 1892-1901, letters from Thomas Jones, 1929-1954, letters to him, 1929-1953, miscellanea and press cuttings relating to him, together with papers, 1955-1994, concerning the use of the Thomas Jones Papers at the National Library of Wales, and to the writing and publication of his biography by Dr E. L. Ellis, 1974-1992.

The series comprises papers, mainly printed, relating to foreign affairs, especially Africa.

The series comprises personalia and mementos accumulated by Eirene White, 1920-1996, including souvenirs of university life and lecture notes, material deriving from the Second World War, material collected during her trips abroad, articles and pamphlets published by her, speech and lecture notes and papers relating to the award of the life peerage in 1970 and other honours and distinctions awarded to Lady White, and papers concerning the writing of Eirene White, The Ladies of Gregynog (1985).

John White

The series comprises letters, 1947-1965, from John White, letters, 1939-1968, addressed to him, printed items, 1944-1966, papers concerning his death and estate and messages of condolence addressed to Eirene White on her husband's death in 1968.

Miscellaneous family papers

The series comprises stray family letters, 1901-1973, papers concerning the publication in 1929 of a memoir to Elphin Lloyd Jones, and material, 1938-1973, relating to the administration of the Elphin Lloyd Jones Memorial Fund.

Personal notebooks and address books

The series comprises pocket notebooks, 1929-[1970s], and address books,[1930]-[1990], kept by Eirene White, containing rough notes, lists of names and addresses, notes on travels, engagements, etc.

Public work in Wales

The series comprises correspondence and papers deriving mainly from Eirene White's involvement in Welsh public life, notably in connection with the Robert Owen Museum, the Montgomeryshire Canal and its restoration, the Council for the Protection of Rural Wales, the Offa's Dyke Association, the Conway Crossing and the Land Authority for Wales.

Tristan Jones

The series comprises letters, 1929-1980, to and from Tristan Jones, papers concerning his death in 1990 and to the sale of his extensive collection of ceramic political figures in January 1991.
