Women in Politics

Drafts of speeches, with handwritten notes, on women in politics and specifically in the south Wales valley and as members of the National Assembly for Wales along with documents related to visits with the British Council to China, Brazil and Azerbaijan to highlight Wales' record on women’s representation in the National Assembly for Wales. This file also includes a conference organised by Christine Chapman on domestic abuse in the Cynon Valley and two published academic articles co-written with Julia Edwards on the policy of twinning Constituency Labour Parties to promote equal representation of men and women as candidates in winnable constituencies.

Anti-Smacking Campaign

Papers related to a long running campaign to ban smacking children, through removal of the "reasonable chastisement" in Welsh law. The file includes correspondence with Assembly Members, Ministers, legal officials and the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keir Starmer and an opinion from the First Minister, Carwyn Jones indicating that he believed the law was within the competence of the Assembly. The file also contains drafts of speeches given by Christine Chapman, articles and press releases, annotated drafts of legislation, letters from private citizens giving their opinion on the legislation and papers giving international comparisons.

Committee correspondence and related papers

The file contains general correspondence and related papers, 1983-1986, consisting of correspondence from committee members regarding matters such as the W.C.U. constitution, newsletter, club ties, and the Welsh Ex-pats Chess Association. The file also conatins newsletters (1984-1986), and copies of the Welsh Chess Union constitution, drafts, and rules (1985).

General correspondence and related papers

The file contains general correspondence, 1990-2001, from national and local officers regarding sponsors, tournaments, meetings, and grants. The file also contains some related reports and administrative papers, including a copy of the FIDE ratings list (1990).

Year book production

The file contains correspondence and papers relating to the editing, distribution, and production of the Welsh Chess Yearbook, 1982-1985, including some letters (1984-1985) from its one time editor, the Welsh author T. Llew. Jones.

Sponsorship
