Papers relating to the life and career of Edward Morgan Humphreys, including letters to E. Morgan Humphreys, from several prominent Welsh figures, 1900x1955, relating to professional matters, such as his articles and contributions to newspapers, requests for articles, radio talks, addresses, literary works, public appointments, his involvement with the eisteddfod and various committees; together with some letters relating to personal affairs, politics and literary matters and letters written to him in his role as an editor; miscellaneous and family ('Dyffryn') correspondence, which are mostly letters of the families of E. Morgan Humphreys' great-grandfather, the Rev Richard Humphreys, and of his grandfather, the Rev Edward Morgan, [1800]x1953; articles, radio scripts and addresses by E. Morgan Humphreys, 1902x1955; together with some personal and family papers, 1841x1955; articles, poetry, adjudications and letters to the editor of Y Genedl etc., by T. Gwynn Jones, 1890x1949; and other miscellaneous papers accumulated by E. Morgan Humphreys, [1762]x1955. Some of the family correspondence was published in 'Some Nineteenth Century Letters', in The Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion, 1925-1926.

Papers relating to Thomas Gee, Calvinistic Methodist minister, journalist and politician, of Denbigh, including a biography; extracts from her father's letters sent by Mrs. S. M. Matthews, Amlwch, to Mr. Jones [?T. Gwynn Jones], 1912; 'Adgofion am fy Anwyl Dad' [Thomas Gee] written in pencil by one of his children; correspondence, 1891, between Thomas Gee (copies of letters) and St. John Charlton, Cholmondeley, Malpas, Cheshire, concerning the tithe of Eglwys-Wen farm, which Thomas Gee held as tenant; reports of Sunday Schools in the Ruthin District, 1887-1888; extracts from the minute book of 'Cyfarfodydd Ysgolion Dosbarth Rhuthyn', 1882-1898, containing references to Thomas Gee; press cuttings relating to Thomas Gee's Education Scheme, 1896; notes on the Land Question; sermon notes; verses in memory of Thomas Gee, 1898; and a few printed items including a circular, February, 1893, containing Thomas Gee's suggestions for the Disendowment of the Church of England in Wales, and a copy of the Disestablishment Bill, 1895.

A minute book of the Literary Society of Gerlan Calvinistic Methodist Church, Gerlan, Bethesda, Caernarvonshire, covering (with some gaps) the period 1906-19. Among the entries are detailed reports of lectures by Principal [Thomas] Rees, Bangor (on 'David Livingstone'), Professor [Sir] John Morris-Jones, Bangor ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion' and 'Pantycelyn'), Thomas Shankland, Bangor ('Morgan John Rhys, y Jacobin Cymreig'), S. Maurice Jones, Caernarvon ('Olion Hen Hanes Cymru', with illustrations, by the recorder, of Caernarvon Castle, Valle Crucis Abbey, the parliament house of Owain Glyndŵr at Dolgellau, Cefn Brith, etc.), J. Holograph, autograph, and typescript messages of greetings for publication in the first number of Y Cymro, 3 December, 1932. Thirteen exercise books, those numbered I-XII containing miscellaneous poetic and prose compositions (many in draft form), by, and in the hand of, Isaac Jones, Diserth, co. Flint [father of Thomas Gwynn Jones, professor of Welsh literature, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth]. The items include 'pryddestau' entitled 'Abel' (a draft and a more finished version, composed for competition at an eisteddfod at Blaenau Ffestiniog, 1891), 'Cartref', 'Y Nefoedd', and 'Naaman y Syriad' (draft) (composed for competition at eisteddfodau or literary festivals at Abergele, 1885, 1889, and 1890, respectively), and 'Y Croeshoeliad'; a draft of a romance in serial form called 'Teulu'r Groesffordd' (seven chapters completed, chapter 8 incomplete); a short story called 'Hywel Tudur yr Hendre'; a draft of the beginning of a novel to be called 'Teulu'r Hafod'; draft or final versions of short dissertations or essays on such topics as 'Geirwiredd' (for competition at an eisteddfod at Llanrwst, 1891), 'Cadwraeth y Sabbath yn ei berthynas a llwyddiant tymhorol' (incomplete), 'Y Ddeddf air Efengyl', 'Y Tair Gardd' (1922), 'Peryglon y Swydd i Ysbryd y Blaenor' (headed by a pencilled note, in another hand, reading 'Papyr a ddarllenwyd yn Nghymdeithasfa Caerlleon, gan Isaac Jones, Dyserth'), and 'Gwyrthiau'; an incomplete copy of a letter referring to tithe legislation, addressed to the editor of Y Faner; and other incomplete fragments. The note-book numbered XIII contains a copy of the poem by T. Gwynn Jones entitled 'Dyddiau y Parch. Richard Owen' [see Dyddiau y Parch. Richard Owen, gyda Chynyrchion Buddugol Ereill, gan Gwynvre ap Iwan a Gwilym Meredydd (Wyddgrug, 1891)]. This is probably the actual holograph copy of the poem, which, under the pseudonym 'Deigryn Hiraeth', T. Gwynn Jones submitted for competition at a literary festival held at Abergele, Christmas 1888. Included with the note-books are a holograph note from Mrs. S[arah] E[lin] Jones, sister of T. Gwynn Jones, undated, a holograph letter from Owen Jones, husband of the said Mrs. S. E. Jones, Diserth, [19]53, and a letter from the said Owen and S. E. Jones, Dyserth, [19]53, [all three to D. Gwenallt Jones, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth], and all relating to the note-books, which were being forwarded to the recipient. Included also are typescript notes compiled by, and bearing the initials of, A[rthur] ap G[wynn] [son of T. Gwynn Jones], listing, and commenting on, the contents of each individual note-book.

Fifteen testimonial letters, 1899-1921, for Dafydd Rhys Jones ('Jones Pat'), headmaster of the Gaiman Higher Grade School, Chubut, 1906-1915, and of the Cwmystwyth, Pontrhydfendigaid and Ysbyty Ystwyth Council Schools, Cardiganshire, 1902-1906, 1917-1941.
Among the referees are Professors Edward Anwyl, 1900 (ff. 4-5), and T. Gwynn Jones, 1919 (f. 16). Also included are extracts from the annual reports for Cwmystwyth School for 1903-1905 (f. 19) and newspaper cuttings, [c. 1916]-[1953], mostly relating to Devil's Bridge and Ysbyty Ystwyth (ff. 20-21).

Compositions submitted to the crown competition (MS 23052D), the chair competition (MS 23053D) and the other poetry competitions (MS 23054D) at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, Wrecsam, 1933. MS 23052D includes a letter from J. Gwili Jenkins, one of the adjudicators (f. 1) and the winning pryddest by Simon B. Jones (ff. 2-12); MS 23053D includes letters from the three adjudicators, T. Gwynn Jones, R. Williams Parry and J. J. Williams, together with copies of the latter two's adjudications (ff. 1-25) and the winning awdl by Edgar Phillips ('Trefin') (ff. 26-34).
