The article on 'Politics in Wales' in the previous day's Times - 'A vile attack on the Welsh people. Most complimentary to me. ... Interesting but in its references to Wales & Welsh Nonconformity venemous. Worth reading though'. Is preparing for Wrexham, and also has the Scottish tour on his mind.

Clarke is to accompany him on the journey home - 'I could not face the lonely journey there - & especially back'. William George and Uncle Lloyd are 'the bravest souls I ever met'.

I finished up with a fiery war cry calling the Welsh tribes to do battle for their country. ... Many told me that if they had known in the County I would stand an election I would have been selected in a great number of places. I never delivered a more successful speech'.
