Journal of John Matthews of Birmingham, describing a tour which he made through France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria from May to October 1842 with his wife, Hannah Maria Matthews (1799?-1890) (ff. 1-86), and their tour in Wales, May to September 1844 (ff. 88-127), the latter section being illustrated with engravings, 1841-1842.

Up to Mametz

Autograph copy of what Wyn Griffith describes as 'the starting point of what became Up to Mametz', an account of his experiences during the 38th (Welsh) Division's attempts to capture Mametz Wood in July 1916. The work was published in 1931.

Western Front,

Printed military maps (mostly produced by the Ordnance Survey), with annotations, of northern France and southern Belgium, including the areas around Péronne and the river Somme, Armentières, Arras, Béthune, Tournai and Ypres. Also included is a map sheet of the British front around Armentières produced for the Daily Telegraph, together with two French tourist road maps of northern France and parts of Belgium.
