A scrap-book of transcripts and a few newspaper cuttings containing 'Dywediadau Dillyn (O'r Ffrangcaeg)'; 'Diarhebion amaethyddol'; 'Hen Ddiarhebion Cymreig'; 'Diarhebion Cymreig'; a letter of Canon T. W. Farrar to Mr (aft. Sir) [John Henry] Puleston, MP, 1884 (the death by suicide of Dean Edwards of Bangor); obituary notices, 1884, of H[enry] T[homas] Edwards, dean of Bangor; 'Christmas Sayings'; miscellaneous poetry (e.g. 'A Welsh Classic' by H. H. Ballard, 'Epitaph on the Marquis of Anglesey's Leg, which had been lost at the Battle of Waterloo' by [George] Canning, 'Poem ... on Dean Stanley' [i.e. Arthur Penrhyn Stanley, dean of Westminster] by H. E. O. Edwards, 'Speech Day' 1881, 'Esgob [Joshua] Hughes, Llanelwy', 1884, 'A Hymn, composed by Dean [David] Howell ['Llawdden'] of St David's and sung at his Funeral in the Cathedral Jan. 21 1903'); etc. Among the insets are 'Gweddi Brdynhawnol' [sic], a fragment of a draft topographical dictionary (comprising Mallwyd, Llan y Mawddwy, [Llang]ynyw, and Meifod), printed hymns, etc. The volume was originally a blank Catalogue and Register of a Parochial Lending Library under the sanction of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge.

An early nineteenth century manuscript, in three hands, containing miscellaneous poetry. The titles include ['Ayron's vale'] (two copies), 'On the death of admiral lord Nelson', 'On the death of the right honorable William Pitt', 'Hymn', 'Ode to Christmas day', 'A Father's advice to his son: an elegy', 'Edgar and Emma A legendary tale', 'Edward and Laura A tale', 'Epitaph', 'Sequal [sic] to the tale of Edward & Laura', 'The Suppliant', 'Cerdd i fari Merch Morgan' by Taliesin Lloyd, 'On A little favorite Dog', 'The Lassie's Lament', etc.: with one exception, the poems are anonymous.

A composite volume almost entirely in the hand of the Reverend Robert Williams (1810-81), Rhydycroesau, near Oswestry. It contains a list of contents and a complete transcript of Peniarth MS 152 ('cywyddau' and 'awdlau' by Gutto'r Glynn, etc.), completed at Rhydycroesau, 21 December 1870; a transcript from Brogyntyn MS 2, with an English translation, of a 'cywydd' by Tudur Penllyn transcribed 2 February 1871; two copies of a 'cywydd' by Sion Kain transcribed from Peniarth MS [116], 14 November 1876, with relevant marginal pedigrees, poetry in strict and free metres by Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'] from 'Cydymeth Ifiengtid; sef Cerddi Cowyddau, ag Englynion tra dewisol na buant yn Argraffedig yr rioed hyd eitha fy ngwibodheth, sef Gwaith amriw rai o brydyddion cymru wedi gasglu gan Dafydd Evans, Llanfihangel, 1785'; 'Cywyddau Cywilyddus o [ffug-]waith Gweyrful Mechain', a 'cywydd' by Tydur Penllyn and 'englynion' by Iorwerth Vynglwyd, from 'Llyfr Hir Llywarch Reynolds' (NLW MS 970) and Llanstephan MS 35; and an incomplete list of contents of Cwrtmawr MS 242. The spine is lettered 'Gwaith Gutto'r Glyn'.

A composite volume almost entirely in the hand of Daniel Silvan Evans containing Welsh metrical translations of poetry by Felicia Dorothea Hemans, Helen Herbert (Aberaeron), Edward Verity (St David's College, Lampeter), Lord Byron, [Johann Wolfgang von] Goethe, etc. and original poetry by D. Silvan Evans, much of it dated at Llanover, Llanarth (Cardiganshire), St David's College, Lampeter, etc. during the period 1843-7; 'Telyn Cymru', being transcripts of poetry in free and strict metres by Thomas Lloyd Jones ('Gwenffrwd'), [John Jones] ('Tegid'), ?Ioan Blackwell ['Alun'], [Thomas Edwards] ('Caervallwch'), [William Owen-Pughe] ('Idrison') and [Daniel Evans] ('Daniel Ddu [o Geredigion]'); 'Selections of English Poetry' by Mary Howitt, Felicia Dorothea Hemans, [William] Knox, [David] Vedder, Letitia Elizabeth Landon (afterwards Mrs Maclean), A. M. G. (Cheltenham; translated from the Welsh of 'Tegid'), Reginald Heber, Mathew Gregory Lewis (from the German of Goethe), Miss [Maria Jane] Williams (Aberpergwm), Bernard Barton, Ambrose Barber (Wadham College, Oxford), [Thomas] Campbell, J. A composite volume of three small notebooks containing 'cywyddau', 'englynion' and English verses by 'Sioseb Nerquis', with some 'englynion' by 'I. Ddu' and 'Merddin Wylts [sic] o Nerquis'; and transcripts by Mary Richards, Darowen, c. 1861, of Welsh metrical psalms and hymns by Thomas Roberts ('Philo Cadfan'), Joseph Marpole, William Jones, John Williams (Dolgellau), and anonymous compositions. One of the hymns, dated 1861, is in memory of the Reverend James Hamer 'Offeiriad Llanfihangel [yng Ngwynfa] a Discybl i David Harris [?Carno]'.

A small scrap book [of Morris Davies, Bangor] containing cuttings of English poetry by David Williams Breeze, Portmadoc, 1844, and others; articles entitled 'Welsh Literature' (containing 'A biographical memoir of Dr John Davies of Mallwyd') and 'Hen Emynwyr' (Dafydd William, Llandeilo Fach, and Thomas Williams, Bethesda'r Fro), book reviews, etc. Sources of some of the cuttings are noted as follows: Bangor Chronicle [?North Wales Chronicle], Carnarvon Herald [Carnarvon and Denbigh Herald], Herald Cymraeg, Y Goleuad, Baner Cymru and Christian World. The volume was originally used by Jane Davies, Upper Bangor to record English poetry, 1832-5, and lists of mottoes of titled and landed families. The spine is lettered 'Original Poetry'.

Miscellaneous papers, including a catechism entitled 'Sylwadau ar y Ddeddf foesol'; 'Gwlad ffynnonau dyfroedd', being a description of the Llanwrtyd district; bibliographical memoranda in the hand of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'); English verses in the hand of Angharad Llwyd; an 'englyn' by [David Richards] '[Dewi] Silin'; an 'awdl' entitled 'Y Pregethwr Politicaidd' (Ar y pedwar mesur ar hugain) by 'Pechadur' in the hand of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'); etc. The papers are contained within the cover of an account book of Evan Evans, c. 1854.

A notebook in three hands containing English translations of poetry by Alphonse de Lamartine, among them being versifications by G. Hughes, Oakley Lodge, Gloucestershire, and translations by Amédé Louis Joseph Guidez; 'englynion' by [Daniel Evans] 'Daniel Ddu [o Geredigion]' and [John Jones] 'Ioan Tegid', 1828, and English translations and imitations of poetry of 'Ioan Tegid' by T. S. A. and T. J., 1832-6; and an extract from Francois René, vicomte de Chateaubriand: Les Martyrs, ou Le Triomphe de la Religion Chrétienne, together with a corresponding Latin translation by M. Guidez. Although the fly-leaf bears the name of Alcwyn C. Evans, Carmarthen none of the text is in his hand.

A volume containing some 'penillion' and, at the other end and largely in a different hand, late eighteenth and early nineteenth century English poetry ('On the death of Cromwell', 'On the death of Admiral Lord Nelson', etc.). Some of the English poems are signed 'J.M.' There is also an 'englyn', in yet another hand, by Catrin Morgan. Watermark: 1813.

A composite volume in the autograph of Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd') containing a summary of the main events of his life, 1802-58, notes concerning Goronwy Owen, David Thomas ('Dafydd Ddu Eryri') and David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion'), various accounts and memoranda, partly in pencil, including the following: 'Sepr 17 1844 Received from Mr Hugh Humphreys 144 copies (Printed) of my 'Harvest Hymns' 2/6. Distributed as follows ...', and 'Dr. Burton's Theory of the Millenium', lines entitled 'Contemplation on a River's Bank (From Eben Fardd)' by 'Bl. ab C.....n [i.e. a translation of 'Myfyrdod ar lan afon'], notes of an address or sermon in Welsh on education, and notes on the Hebrew alphabet, etc.

Two volumes of epigrams, epitaphs and other verses collected and transcribed from the papers of the Reverend Eliezer Williams by his son St George Armstrong Williams in 1836. They include translations from Horace and among the other titles are 'A Tribute of Gratitude from the Peasantry of Ayron's Vale to their Landlord for conscientiously lowering their rents', 'The Sceptic', 'Ancient & Modern authors', 'The Topers', 'Spendthrifts' 'Celia (imitated from Martial)', 'Laura', 'Stale jests against matrimony', 'The National Debt', 'On a Drunkard', 'Translator', 'On a little Fellow (from the Greek)', 'On a noted Liar', 'Occassioned by some illiberal reflections thrown on Dr Johnson's memory', 'The Miser', 'Gluttony', 'On Lieut. Price's defence of th Islands of Marçon', 'On a late proposition to Great Britain of an Armistice by sea', 'On the capture of the 'Guillaume Tell'', 'On Lieut. Burke's cutting out several armed Vessels from French and Spanish Harbours', 'On a sailor who refused to give his money to a Highwayman that stopped the Dover Stage Coach', 'On a sailor who took an Ass to the Play house at Sheerness', etc. MS 61, which is mutilated, also contains an 'Extract of a Letter from Lampeter, dated 21 Decr. 1816' describing a trial at the Town Hall, Lampeter, of 'several young gentlemen of the Seminary at that place' on the charge of maltreating and murdering 'several of the offspring of one Terence'.

Written on the inside lower cover is a long note by O[wen] Williams, Fronheulog, Waunfawr, 1857, of which the following is an extract, - 'Myfi a gesglais gynhwysedd y llyfr hwn o'r hen ysgrifiau a ddaeth i'm dwylaw oeddynt eiddo Dafydd Ddu Eryri ac a delais am eu rhwymo yn nghyd megys y gwelir yma er's llawer o flynyddoedd yn ol ...'.

'Nisus & Euryalus. Episode from 9th Aeneid of Virgil', viz. a metrical translation by Thomas Powell of Aeneid IX, 176-449, dedicated to his son, Frederick Charles [Powell], with the Latin hexameters facing, written in another hand [? that of F. C. Powell, see note on p. [10]]. Beneath the dedication is a note ending: 'This Translation by the Translators attention to originality, looks like his own Invention & not a Translation (?)S. T.'.

Original manuscript of 'Emma or the Baculiniad, a Poem in 5 Cantos' by Thomas Powell [privately printed: London, 1805].

A small volume containing 'Original Compositions' by Thomas Powell, mainly in verse, some described as having been printed in The Gentleman's Magazine. The titles include 'ode to Captain James Luttrell', 'Inscription at Strawberry Hill', 'Inscription at Gloster house, Twickenham' ('Seat of James Whitchurch Esqr & his Lady - my very good Friends both'), and 'Inscription in a rural Temple in the Grove, at York House - Twickenham'.

A composite volume containing poetical compositions in strict and free metre by, and in the autograph of, Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd'). The wording on the title-page of the first part of the volume is 'Cyfansoddion Barddonol gan Ebenezer Thomas, Clynnog. 1843' but some of the items in the section are later than this date. The remainder of the manuscript appears to consist of two other sections, the one containing miscellaneous poems, some dated, c. 1833-60, the other containing 'Y Cleopiad', 1847, and a number of 'englynion'. Alterations and interlineations have been made in some of the poems. Besides the Welsh poems - many of which, though not all, are included in Gweithiau Barddonol, &c. Eben Fardd [?1873] - the volume contains a few items of English verse. There are also one or two printed items, including a sheet of harvest hymns entitled 'Hymnau Cynauaf' by Ebenezer Thomas, 1843 (Caernarfon: Argraffwyd gan James Rees).
