A composite volume in several hands containing letters from Edward Roberts ('Ior[werth] Glan Aled'), Rhyl, to [Ebenezer Thomas 'Eben Fardd'], 1858 (copy of writer's note to [John Williams], 'Ioan Madog' concerning 'englynion' to 'Eben Fardd', Llangollen Eisteddfod, condolence), and from Richard Jones ('Gwyndaf Eryri') Caernarfon, to Ebenezer Thomas ['Eben Fardd'], Llangybi, 1827 (the loan of a volume of poetry, a request for an English translation of a short ode ('odlig') to Lord Newborough), 'awdlau', 'cywyddau', and 'englynion', partly autograph, by Mathew Owen (Llangar) ('Ac a Goppiwyd Rhagfyr 11 1812 Gan Robert Robert Maccwy Môn Ar frys'), Sion Kain (1643), John Rhydderch, Richard Lloyd, William Phylip, Morys ab I'an ab Einion [Morys Dwyfech], Davydd ap Gwilim, John Owenes (1675/6), Iolo Goch, Dav[id] Thomas ('D[afydd] Ddu o Eryri'), Robert Davies ('o Nantglyn'), Sion Philip, Humphrey David ap Evan (1644), Griffith Hiriaethog, and Griffudd ap Ifan ap Llywelyn Vychan, and anonymous poems; poems in free metres by John Prichard and 'Uthr Ben Dragon' (1815) and an anonymous carol; etc. Much of the later section of the volume, c. 1808, is in the hand of John Williams. Elizabeth] by Thomas ap Richard of Bwlch y Beydu, Denbighshire, gent., in a dispute between David ap Rees ap gruffith lloyd of Llanrwst, yeo[man], William ap Rees ap gruff lloyd of Scrogennan, and Low[ ] ... widow, mother of the said William, relating to messuages and lands in Llanddoged and Gwytherin, late of Rees ap gruff lloyd deceased; a lease for life, temp. Elizabeth, from Richard lloid of Sweney, Salop, gent., to Richard Burley of the same, yeo[man], of mays yr hen westyn in Sweney.

A volume of seventy-three holograph letters of David Williams ('Dewi Heli'; 1799-1869), Castell Deudraeth, Penrhyndeudraeth. They comprise: (A) Thirty-six letters from Bronhaulog [parish of Ceidio, Caernarvonshire], Llanfyllin, Pwllheli, etc. to John Thomas ['Sion Wyn o Eifion'], Chwilog, 1816-46 (books read by the writer and the addressee; critical observations on poetry mutually exchanged by the writer and the addressee; an opinion on contemporary English poets; the writer's illness; the writer's opinion of 'Mr Williams Werne' and of 'witty Preachers'; references to Welsh books and periodicals, e.g. Gorchestion Beirdd Cymru, Seren Gomer, etc.; the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act; observations on the dictionary of [William] Owen [-Pughe] and an appreciation of his works; the writer's love of music and of musical instruments, with special references to the flute; an appreciation of [David Thomas] 'Dafydd Ddu [Eryri]'; the writer's study of globes; French books from Plashen for the writer; the writer's desire to improve his mastery of Welsh; an opinion on the administering of the Sacrament to the addressee; numerous references to the addressee's health; a report of the Lleyn-Eifionydd Bible Society written by the writer; an appreciation of Miss Higginbottom, 'a female literary character' well known to the addressee, and the writer's meeting with her; copies of the compositions of 'Pedrog Penfoul alias T. Four compositions on 'Cerdd Arwest er Anfarwol Goffadwriaeth i Owain Glyndwr' entered for competition at the Llangollen Eisteddfod, 1858.

A scrap-book inferentially compiled by John Lloyd Jones ('Clwydwenfro'; 1835-1919) containing press cuttings and a few manuscript items. Some of the cuttings are dated within the 1850s-1870s and among the more interesting titles are 'Hynodion Cwm Rhondda .... Testyn Cystadleuol Eisteddfod y Porth, Nadolig, 1861'; 'Collegiate and University Education in Wales'; 'Llythyr oddiwrth y Parch. Morris Phillips, Cenhadwr i India'; 'Teyrnged i Goffadwriaeth Ioan Pedr'; 'Beirniadaeth ar Gyfansoddiadau Barddonol Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Aberdar, Awst 1861'; 'Llangollen Great National Eisteddfod' [1858]; 'Y Ffrwydriad yn Abercarn'; 'Sketches of Cardiff Preachers'; etc. The manuscript material comprises a tale entitled 'The Bride of Santa Croce', 19 November 1856, described in an annotation by J. Ll. James as 'the composition of the late John Griffith Davies (son of the Rev. J. Davies ['Siôn Gymro'], Glandwr, Pembrokeshire) who wrote it and sent it to John Lloyd James, then a student at Carmarthen College, that he might fill up the outline', and verses entitled 'Y Messiah', etc. addressed to John Ll. James, Berllandawel, Llanglwydwen and annotated in the latter's hand 'J. G. Davies, Yetwen, pan yn Narberth', etc. The outer upper cover is inscribed, in the hand of J. H. Davies, 'Articles and poetry from Cyfaill y Werin and other papers'.
