A volume originally used fairly extensively by Thomas Richards, Darowen as a rentroll of tithes set in the parish of Darowen, 1824-31. Beginning at the end, also in the hand of Thomas Richards, are a note from the Shrewsbury Chronicle, 1829, on the 'Rearing of Apple Trees'; medical, veterinary and household recipes; and accounts of receipts and disbursements (tithes, road rates, rents, etc.) of Thomas Richards, 1827-31. The remainder of the volume was used by Mary Richards, circa 1850-4, to record transcripts of a list of books in the library of Thomas Richards, Darowen; letters from Evan Richards to Thomas Richard[s], curate of Eglwys fach, near Dovy furnace, undated (religious meditations, a pocket Bible), Ch. Meyer, Llanrhaiadr [ym Mochnant], to T[homas] Richards, Llangynyw, undated (news of W. Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], an invitation to the recipient and Arthur [James] John[e]s), Thos Jones, L[eintwar]dine [aft. of Creaton], to Thos. One of the sources quoted by Mary Richards is a manuscript of Sir Thomas Llwyd, 'Person Cemes, Sir Drefaldwyn'. The outside upper cover is inscribed '1825 Tithe Book'.

Glamorgan, with a Welsh translation thereof.

A 'poetical' exercise book of W. J. Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd') largely containing annotated transcripts of 'englynion' and other verses of the period 1820-1830 by Evan Evans ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'), William Jones ('Gwilym Cawrdaf'), Rowland Parry ('Ieuan Carn Dochan'), [William Williams] ('Gwilym Cyfeiliog'), Henry Griffith ('Hare Goch o Wynedd'), and Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'). The collection is based on information received from Mary Richards ('Mair Risiart'), Darowen Vicarage, and contains copious extracts from 'Y Begeryn', being a manuscript in her possession containing impromptu verses by visiting poets, etc. The volume also contains transcripts of two letters, the one from J[ohn] Parry ['Bardd Alaw'] to the Reverend T[homas] Richards, Aberrhiw, 1822 (the success of Evan Evans ['Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'] as candidate for North Wales for a medal), and the other from Evan Evans ['Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'] to the Reverend T[homas] Richards, Caerwys [1816] (the recipient's promotion to the living of Caerwys, etc.); a list of books bought of the administrator of W[illiam] L[ewis] Walker [rector of Trefriw], 1863; and poetry by 'Gwilym Cowlyd' partly described as 'Y Ffetan Ysmaldod'.

An album of annotated autographs, photographs and engravings, printed matter, press cuttings, etc., compiled during the years 1858-1881. The volume is almost entirely devoted to persons who were prominent in the literary and musical life of Wales during this period, and it appears from internal evidence to have been well known to the compiler's friends and contemporaries. The autographs are largely in the form of personal entries, recorded mainly at national and other eisteddfodau, but there are also a number of mounted holograph letters, 'cut-out' signatures from holograph letters, and franks. Used as the upper end paper is a fragment of an 18th century answer of Christopher Welcker the elder, one of the defendants to the bill of complaint of Wm. Sherlock and Frances, his wife, and James Blundell and Mary, his wife, complainants.

A collection of 'cerddi', 'carolau', etc. by Hugh Morris, together with a 'cerdd' by Huw Jones, Llangwm, a 'cerdd' by the Reverend Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], anonymous 'englynion, 'carolau' and some financial accounts, 1805 and undated. The volume is in the hand of Huw Jones, Llangwm, with a few later additions by Elizabeth Maurice and by Mary Richards, Darowen. A manuscript consisting largely of transcripts and memoranda by Mary Richards and Thomas Richards of Darowen. The volume appears originally to have been used as an account book of receipts and disbursements in respect of the farms of Llwyn, Cafnmaelen and Byrthlwydd [parish of Dolgellau, Merioneth], 1799-1802, and also to record biographies of [James Crichton, 'The Admirable'], Sir Francis Walsingham, Sir Francis Drake and William Cecil, Lord Burghley. The volume was largely compiled during the years 1855-60 but there are some later entries dated to 1871.
