A small book of transcripts of Welsh poetry in the hand of John Davies, Pentrefoelas. It contains 'Cywydd y pren eirin yn dair rhan'; 'Cywydd yn erbyn Medd-dod'; and 'cywyddau' by Llewelyn ab Evan, Edward ap Rheece, Meredydd ap Rhys, William Cynwal, and 'englynion' by Owen Gruffydd, Moris Powel, Edward Maelor, and Simwnt Vaughan.

A miscellany of prose and verse lettered 'Pigion' but known as 'Y Gell Gymysg', most of it in the hand of Thomas Evans ('Tomos Glyn Cothi'), minister, poet and author, but with 'Trioedd yr Offeiriad', on pp. 209-14, by and in the autograph of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'). Also included are poems by Edward Richard, Ystrad Meurig, William Moses ('neu Gwilim Tew, o Glyn Tâf'), Howel Prichard, Edward Evans, Ton Coch, Lewis Hopkin, William Harr[i], Llwyn-onn, William Davies (alias 'Wm. In a note on the aforementioned 'title-page' (p. 199) Edward Williams claims to have transcribed this collection in 1799 from a manuscript in the possession of Siams Thomas of Maerdy Newydd, co. Glamorgan. Preceding and following the actual text of the collection are transcripts of a prefatory letter dated 1685 (pp. 201-06) and of the concluding note already referred to (p. 390) both of which are attributed to the Glamorgan scribe and copyist Thomas ab Iefan of Tre Bryn as compiler of the manuscript from which Edward Williams was allegedly copying (see TLLM, t. 172; IM, tt. 291-4). Pp. 391-477 contain a transcript of a collection, in alphabetical order, of over three thousand Welsh proverbs attributed to Cattwg Ddoeth ('Llyma Ddiarhebion Cattwg Ddoeth . . . sef yw hwnn Ail Lyfr y Gwyddfardd Cyvarwydd'). This collection, according to the aforementioned note at the end of the preceding section (p. 390) attributed to Thomas ab Iefan, had been compiled by the said Thomas from various sources and formed a continuation of the previous section. Edward Williams's claim with regard to the Siams Thomas volume is probably intended to apply to the contents of pp. 391-477 as well. The contents of pp. 199-390 have been published in The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales . . ., vol. III (London, 1807), pp. 1-99.

A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing a thumb-nail alphabetical index of first lines of the poetry of Jonathan Hughes (1721-1805), Llangollen, taken almost entirely from the poet's Bardd a Byrddau (Mwythig, 1778).

An imperfect copy, completed in manuscript by J. H. Davies, of William Roberts (O Lanor yn Llyn), Interlude Morgan y Gogrwr ar Gariadogs Neu Ffrewyll y Methodistiaid ...(Mwythig. Argraphwyd gan R. Lathrob .... 1745). Bound in at the end of the volume is a transcript by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') of 'Englynion o waith [William Roberts] Clochydd Llannor i'r gau athrawon neu'r pregethwyr sydd yn y Bala yn pregethu ag mewn llawer o fanne eraill' (cf Cwrtmawr MS 226, 28-31). There are some notes by J. H. Davies on the flyleaf.

A folder containing eight files of original letters and copies of letters and poetry from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. Files 1-3: Transcripts of letters by Lewis and Richard Morris, mainly to Evan Evans ('Ieuan Fardd') and Dafydd Jones of Trefriw, almost all published in Hugh Owen (ed.), Additional Letters of the Morrises of Anglesey (1735-1786), Y Cymmrodor, Vol. XLIX, 1947-9, the remainder published in G. J. Williams (gol.) Llythyrau at Ddafydd Jones o Drefriw. Cylchgrawn Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru. Atodiad. Cyfres III, Rhif 2 (1942), and J. H. Davies (ed.), The Letters of Lewis, Richard, William and John Morris of Anglesey (Morrisiaid Mon) (Aberystwyth, 1907-9). The original letters or copies from which these copies were transcribed are in the British Museum (Add MSS 14929, 15021, 15024, 15029) and the National Library of Wales (mainly Panton 74 and NLW MS 476). There is also a transcript of a letter from the Reverend Thomas Ellis, Holyhead to the Reverend Humphrey Owen and the Reverend J. Hoare, 1742 (the original letter is preserved in NLW MS 478), and a copy of Evan Evans's elegy to Lewis Morris, with notes on the text. File 4: Transcripts of letters from Edward Richard, Ystrad Meurig, c. 1759-1766, to Evan Evans ('Ieuan Fardd'). There are also copies of two short letters to Evan Evans from Roderick Lewis, Trefeglwys, and William Howell, Llanidloes, which were written on the same sheet as Edward Richard's letter of 1 March 1766. The original letters are preserved in NLW MS Panton 74. A transcript of a letter from Edward Richard, 1766, to Richard Morris (from BM Add MS 15025), and extracts from letters from Edward Richard to Lewis Morris, 1759 and undated (from BM Add MS 15029). A holograph letter from Edward Richard, Ystradmeuryg, 1762, to Lewis Morris, Penbryn (published in Hugh Owen, op. cit. Part II, pp. 562-3). File 5: A holograph letter from [the Reverend] W[illiam] Davies, Llanwryn [Montgomeryshire], 1710, to Henry Newman at the Reverend Mr Shute's in Bartlet's Buildings, London (receipt of letter and a packet from the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, subscriptions from other parishes, has partly prevailed with a certain minister to become a corresponding member). The letters are addressed to John Roberts ('Sion Lleyn'), Pwllheli (4), 1791-1806 (corrections to addressee's poetry, tributes to writer's brother, Humphrey, after his death, some short poetical compositions by the writer), to Griffith Williams ('Gutyn Peris'), Llandygai (8), 1799-1819, (poetry, subjects upon which writer desired addressee to compose hymns, meetings of bards and eisteddfodau, comments and news of contemporary poets, writer's health and work), and one letter, addressee not named, 1804, (addressee's poetry which writer had received, desires addressee to render 2 Samuel XXII in strict metres and to ask other poets to do the same). The poetry includes verses entitled 'Y Cynauaf mawr diweddaf' subscribed 'D. T. a'i cant allan o'r Saesneg ar ddymuniad John Jones Llandwrog Medi 10d 1804 (cf. Two volumes entitled 'Llyfr o Hen Ganeuon wedi eu cyfansoddi ers 200 mlynedd. 1900'. The volumes are in the hand of J. H. Davies and contain transcripts, with annotations and collations, of 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'dyrïau', 'englynion' and 'awdlau' from the Welsh School and Cymmrodorion groups of manuscripts in the British Museum Additional Collection (MSS 14866-15089). A religious treatise (v + 213 pp.) entitled 'Elw Mawr am Boen Fechan. Neu Gyfarwyddyd i gael Bodlonrwydd', followed by a list of chapter divisions ('Tabl o'r Cynhwysiad'). The work was completed 27 May 1707. Preceding the text is a series of nine complimentary verses entitled 'Englynnion o Barch a Chanmoliaeth i'r Llyfr a elwir Elw mawr am Boen Fechan' by 'C. G.', 30 May 1707, and at the end is an 'englyn' on 'Bodlonrwydd' in a later hand by 'Dafydd ap Tywyn'. There is at the beginning a page partly in the hand of the Reverend John Jones, Tyn'llwyn, Car[ ] containing entries of the burial [at Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr], 9 [5 in bishop's transcripts] February 1808, of Edward Maurice Plas yn Glynn ('fy haen Gyfaill'), and of the birth, 27 December, and baptism at Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr, 29 December, of Edwd. Maurice, grandson of the said Edward Maurice.

A volume labelled 'Llyfr Cerddi William Morgan', being a collection largely of poetry compiled during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century by William Morgan (died 1728), Plassegwynio[n], Llanymawddwy, Merioneth. An imperfect late seventeenth and early eighteenth century commonplace book of Howell Tanat (Tanatt, Tannat, Tannatt), Trewylan Isa, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain, Montgomeryshire. It contains poetry in free metres by Oliver Rogers, Humfrey Dauyd ap Ivan, William Philips, Rolant Voughan [sic], Howell Tanatt, Edward Rolant and Hugh Moris, and anonymous poems; English verses; accounts, 1685-1707 and undated (household, farm, payments to craftsmen, assessments of lewns in Llansantffraid and Llandysilio, etc.); short depositions touching a suit in the Court of Chancery relating to Robt. Kinaston [of Trewylan Ganol, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain] containing references to a plot and the keeping of a Jesuit priest; household and medical recipes; an incomplete dictionary of English phrases with their Latin equivalents; scriptural notes; a prayer; etc.

A late eighteenth century collection of poetry in the hand of John Morris, Glan'r Afon containing 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'ymddiddanion', etc. in free metres and a few englynion by Hugh Morus, Edward Samuel ('Person Llan-garw Gwyn'), [David Jones] ('Dewi Fardd'), Richard Parry ('or Ddiserth'), Morys ap Robert ('o'r Bala'), Robert Evans ('o blwy Meifod'), Mr Robert Wynn ('Vicar Gwyddelwern'), Owen Gruffydd, Ellis Rowland (Harlech), Matthew Owen ('o Langar'), Mr W. Williams ('Person Llan Aelian yn Rhos'), 'Dai Seion' ('o Gaernarfon'), Mr William Williams [recte Wynn] ('o Langynhafal'), Sion Powel ('o Lansannan'), Edward Richard, [Walter Davies] ('Gwallter Mechain'), Jonathan Hughes, Edward Morris, Lewis Glyn Cothi and David Ellis. Preceding the text are 'englynion' by David Thomas ['Dafydd Ddu Eryri'], David Ellis, [David Jones] ('Dewi Fardd') and Evan Evans ['Ieuan Fardd'] ('Gweinidog Llanllechio' [recte Llanllechid]) and 'Awdl y Nef' by 'Ieuan Fardd ag Offeiriad'; a list of contents of the volume ('Testyn Caniadau'r Llyfr hwn'); an introduction by the scribe, dated at Glan'r Afon, 24 December 1793. The collection was begun probably in 1788.
