Two enclosures give accounts in tabular form on the imprisonment of a certain Muazzim Beg Kamdan, in relation to the subah-dar `Usman and the East India Company.

I would like to bring to your notice that Raja Ram Singh came with his associates to see me and complained that I do not allow my army to provide protection to my Hindu subjects. I replied that I do not consider myself separate from the army of Mir Sulaiman Sahib. At this he asked me to provide him with a contingent of two hundred cavalry and five hundred musketeers. I did not agree to this. He will no doubt write to you complaining. I will request that until I come to see you and explain the matter you delay any answer to that request. I am sending a pair of good-looking horses for you through Mirza Fazil Beg. I will be grateful if you will inform me when he arrives there. I hope to come and see you soon.

A consignment of fifty maunds of raw silk was received here from the English Company. When I opened the promissory note, I found it was dated the month of Dhu al-Hijjah. As six-months have passed since this promissory note was issued I am returning this to you with this letter. I have received a letter from the Nawab Sahib addressed to you. This is enclosed with this letter. I am hoping to go to Murshidabad soon. The Nawab Sahib has written to me that I should approach you to grant leave to Rasikh Jang Bahadur so that he could go and see him. Just to let you know that I reached Hoogly safely. I have received a letter from the Nawab Sahib informing that he has handed over Taj Khan and other guards of the Company to the Vakil of the Company and taken a receipt from him. He has included a copy of this receipt with his letter. I am enclosing this receipt for your information. - Enclosure 1: . Copy of a receipt with the seal of Muhammad Anis, Vakil of the [East India] Company. - I, Muhammad Anis, Vakil of the East India Company hereby declare that I have received the custody of Taj Khan, Sayyid Mustafa, Balhajram and Satna who were employed by the company at Calcutta and had secretly run away to Murshidabad to seek employment there. A copy of the receipt is enclosed for you to send to the company. - Enclosure 3: From Nand Kumar to Clive. - I reached Hoogly safely in the morning of Saturday and have been busy with my affairs. I will come and see you at the agreed time.

I have earlier informed you about my circumstances in detail. The latest news is that I reached Calcutta with my army on 15th Rabi al-Avval, San 5 and went to see Navab Sabitjang, Masih Jang Bahadur and Diwan Nand Kumar. I explained to them my circumstances in detail and sought their advice in paying back the loans I had obtained to pay the government. They have adviced me to settle the loans of the mahajans first. As the repayment of these loans is increasing day by day it is becoming difficult for me to pay the loans back. I seek you help to intervene. -- Seal of Rajah Ram Singh Bahadur, 1171. Thank you for your letter informing that Gopi and four other Dafa'dars with some labourers have run away from Calcutta and are now in my district and that I should apprehend them send them back to Calcutta under guard. I am appointing my brother, Mirza Nur Ali Beg to accomplish this task. I am sending your letter to him for this purpose. I am intending to go to Murshidabad on the 26th of this month and will see my brother there. If you need any further help in this respect please write to him directly there. I have just received a letter from Nawab Sahib addressed to you. This is enclosed with this letter.
