I was very pleased to hear from Babu Sudr Shiv that you have great feelings of friendship and sincerity for me. May our friendship continue for ever. Note: Babu Sudr Shiv has intimate knowledge of our affairs. His advice is always good for our friendship.

Wajid, Khvajah.

Letter from Khvajah Wajid,

I had received a letter from the Assistant Subahdar of Gang yesterday. It is enclosed for your information [missing]. Please let me know your views so that I could reply to the Governor of Calcutta Roger Drake accordingly

Letter from Khvajah Wajid,

I have been involved in the management of Azimabad Kothi for some time. I will be travelling to Chandi to conduct some business and on my way there I will be visiting Azimabad. With your approval I intend to leave for Murshidabad in the month of Rabi` I and after staying there for a few days I intend to march towards Chandi. As I regard you as my friend I am informing you about my travel arrangements in advance. I will be leaving behind my family members in my Haveli near the garden in Charchara. My intention is to go to Azimabad from Murshidabad. I request you to inform Mr Amit [Amyatt] so that he is aware about my visit. He should also inform his associate Babu Suda Shiv so that he could look after the household affairs about my visit.

Wajid, Khvajah.

Letter from Khvajah Wajid,

I am planning to go to Murshidabad in a few days time. I wonder if you have any plan of visiting Murshidabad so that we could meet there. Meanwhile, Babu Sudar Shiv is coming to Calcutta to see you and will explain the situation in detail.

Wajid, Khvajah.

Letter from Khvajah Wajid,

Thank you very much for your reply to my letter which was passed on to me by Babu Sada Shiv. I was pleased to read the contents of your letter. The letter of the members of the Council addressed to Sada Shiv which I had sent you would have shown you the extent of losses incurred by Babu Sada Shiv. I hope that you will be able to explain this to the other members of the Council or appoint an Englishman to investigate this case.

Wajid, Khvajah.

Letter from Khvajah Wajid,

The text of this letter, which refers to M. Pierre Renault, the French governor of Chandernagore, captured by Clive in 1757, does not match any of the contemporary translations in CR8/1 but, in view of its handwriting and content, appears to be that referred to in entry no. 123, received on 10 April from Khvajah Wajid.

Wajid, Khvajah.
