Translation of Dr John Davies' prefaces,

A volume containing a translation into English in the autograph of Lewis Morris of the Preface, etc., to Dr John Davies's Dictionarium Duplex (1632), and a translation in another hand of the Preface to Dr Davies' Grammar (1621), intermingled with notes on some of Horace's Odes. There is also an 'englyn' by L[ewis] M[orris], 1738, 'Copied in Brith y Coed, Vol. I'.

Miscellaneous papers partly in the autograph of Lewis Morris, sewn together in a paper cover to form one volume. The contents are: (a) Notes by Lewis Morris, Sept. 1754, on the title-page, etc., of the Latin-Welsh Dictionary of Dr Thomas Wiliems of Trefriw (Peniarth MS 228). (b) A transcript of Dr Thomas Wiliems's preface to his Dictionary. (c) 'Extracts out of a large folio pedigree book at Llannerch', pp. 910-921. (d) 'Llyma ddosbarth kerdd dant ...', 'Llyma bed[war] Mesur ar hugain cerdd dant', etc. For the latter see The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales, Vol. III (London, 1807), p. 445. Cf. also Iolo A. Williams MSS 15, 136. (e) 'Cerdd Dannau - Extracts from an old Manuscript of Sr Wat Wms Wynne.' See op. cit., p. 625. (f) A copy of the Commission [a note subsequently added reads 'i.e. the Copy from whence this was taken'] was Copied Exactly from the Original now at Mostyn AD 1693, where the Silver Harp also is'. (g) Three sketches of John Parry's harp, 1755, together with eight lines from a cywydd 'I ofyn telyn gan Jenkin Trevor o drefalun i Sion, q. W. Lleyn' beginning, 'O untant i wythdant oedd'. (These sketches have been copied by Thomas Price, 'Carnhuanawc', into the volume which is now NLW MS 1464D. See letter from T. Price to [Taliesin Williams], 6 Feb. 1841). Iolo Morganwg has noted the contents on the cover and at the top of the first page. He has also written some observations on the pedigrees in c above.

Seventeen leaves from a manuscript containing miscellaneous notes and extracts in the autograph of Lewis Morris.
There are some personal memoranda on p. 72: 'Yr amser yr eis i i Lunden oedd mai y 7ed 1723', &c. At the bottom of this page EW has written: 'Llaw Lewys Morys yw'r un uchod ond nis gwn o ba gornel o'r byd y daeth i'm llaw - odid nad dalen o rhyw a fu gennyf, ag a syrthiodd ohono'.
