Oaklands Women's Centre

Material relating to Oaklands Women's Centre, situated in Glasbury, Herefordshire, which was given to Welsh Women's Aid as a respite centre for women and their children living in refuges in Wales. Papers donated by the Pontypridd branch of Welsh Women's Aid. They include material relating to the constitution, corporate structure, strategic development and codes of practice of Welsh Women's Aid; records of its Management Committee and of numerous departmental meetings; internal and external correspondence; accounting, fundraising and other administrative papers; and branch archives from Wales, England and Northern Ireland, all of which reference the issues affecting women and their children who access Women's Aid, such as domestic violence, social welfare and law and legislation.

Jane Hutt (b. 1949) was one of the founder members of Welsh Women's Aid and was appointed as coordinator of the group in January 1978. She is currently (September 2021) a Welsh Labour Party politician serving as Minister for Social Justice since 2021. In her capacity as Welsh Women's Aid co-ordinator, Jane Hutt is frequently referenced throughout this archive.

'Promoting Health and Wellbeing' / 'Well Being in Wales'

Welsh Women's Aid's responses to draft papers produced March 2000 and [2002] by the National Assembly for Wales titled, respectively, 'Promoting Health and Wellbeing: A Consultation Document' and 'Well Being in Wales'. Welsh Women's Aid's responses seek to add to and amend information given in the draft papers by detailing the health needs of women and children in Wales who experience domestic abuse.

Publicity and media

Material relating to publicity and the media as it relates to Welsh Women's Aid, including Publicity Strategy Team records (kept in separate envelope); press releases; correspondence, largely with newspapers and television companies; press cuttings (kept in separate envelope); and guidelines on public speaking and how to deal with the media. A number of items relating to Erin Pizzey, founder of the first shelters for abused women in and around London, who later significantly modified her views on domestic violence and became an advocate for men's rights, are kept in a separate envelope.
