A commonplace book kept by the Honourable John Scott, M.P. [? for Boroughbridge, 1802-5, son of the first earl of Eldon], in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. It contains poems, epigrams, epitaphs, parodies, metrical translations of the classics, etc., by J. Scott, W. 'Spencer, J. Fenton, and others, including ' Prologue to - Nothing, spoken at a Masquerade at Wynnstay, Septr. 1800, by a Character of a Strolling-Player' ; letters and copies of letters mainly to and from John Scott ; ' An account of the present State of England', by C. Heberden ; a copy of an address delivered at Oxford, June 25, 1800, by William Crow[e], entitled 'Oratio Crewiana'; miscellaneous quotations and extracts; etc.
