Miscellaneous papers, April-October 1956, including correspondence between the President, Sir David Hughes Parry, and Principal Goronwy Rees; correspondence between the President and Professor Lily Newton; minutes of Council meetings, June-July 1956; a document signed by certain heads of departments, July 1956; and documents which Goronwy Rees and Sir David Hughes Parry had submitted for the consideration of the Committee.

Correspondence

Correspondence, October 1956-July 1957, mainly between G. H. Baxter as secretary to the Committee and Henry Willink, J. W. F. Hill, W. J. Worboys, Goronwy Rees, Sir David Hughes Parry and T. Maelgwyn Davies, the College Registrar. The letters, dated from the beginning of the enquiry to its conclusion and aftermath, relate to the inviting of witnesses, Goronwy Rees's request for copies of written and oral evidence submitted and letters relating to press coverage and the preparation and printing of the Report. Letters from some witnesses, but no statements, are also included, together with lists of witnesses, sometimes with brief notes relating to their points of view.

'G. H. Baxter: Private papers'

Correspondence, December 1956-April 1957, relating to Herbert Baxter's terms of appointment as secretary to the Committee. Also included is his private correspondence, January-March 1957, with T. Maelgwyn Davies, Registrar of the College, relating to the enquiry and its outcome.

Papers, October 1956-April 1957, mainly relating to Herbert Baxter's work as secretary to the Committee, including arrangements for the reporting of proceedings, the printing of the Report, and expenses incurred. A printed copy of 'University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. Reports to the Court of Governors ... 31st October 1956' is also included.

Press cuttings: The People

Cuttings of the articles which appeared in The People, 4, 11, 18, 25 March, and 1 and 8 April 1956. A press cutting from the Liverpool Daily Post, 22 March 1958, relating to the appointment of Dr Thomas Parry as Principal of UCW Aberystwyth, is also included.

'Principal's Narrative'

Two statements by G. H. Baxter, Secretary of the Committee, signed 11 and 12 February 1957 respectively, enclosing a typescript copy of Goronwy Rees's narrative on which the articles in The People had been based. An annotated typescript copy and a coda are also included.

The Willink Report

Two printed copies (numbered 6 and 65) of the Committee's report entitled 'University College of Wales Aberystwyth, Committee of Enquiry, 1956-57. Report', also known as the 'Willink Report'; together with a proof copy and two typescript drafts.
