Tom Hargreaves Memorial Fund

Tom Hargreaves (1953-1993) was a founding member of Grŵp Canolbarth America Môn & Arfon, who worked on solidarity projects in Nicaragua. He died while on holiday in Alaska. The file consists of papers relating to the Tom Hargreaves Memorial Fund, including press releases, a bank statement, 1994, letters of support and donations, 1993-1995 and reports, 1992-1994, on the Cerro Apante Reforestation Project and Matagalpa for which the fund raised money.

Posters

The file consists of sixteen posters relating to humanitarian aid, human rights, the democratic process and the environment in Nicaragua, Haiti and Central America. Eight of the posters originate with Oxfam and relate to Central America Week.

Ocotal

The file contains reports on environmental work in Ocotal, Nicaragua, August-September 1987, written by Mike Webb and others, as well as notes for talks on Ocotal given by Mike Webb in North Wales.

The fonds comprises two accruals containing papers, 1985-1996, accumulated by Mike Webb and include papers relating to the Nicaraguan election of 1990; various environmental projects in Nicaragua, especially in the Ocotal region, 1986-1992; newspaper cuttings from Nicaragua and Britain, 1988-1994; newsletters, articles and posters relating to Central America, 1985-1993; papers reflecting the activities of the Grŵp Canolbarth America Môn Arfon Central America Group and other related organisations, 1987-1996; and papers concerning the Tom Hargreaves Memorial Fund, 1987-1995.

Environmental Network for Nicaragua

The file consists of newsletters, reports, photocopies, letters and news articles from various organisations including ENN (Environmental Network for Nicaragua), EPOCA (The Environmental Project On Central America) and the Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign, relating to environmental matters in Nicaragua as well as material on farming and environmental matters in Central America and Britain. The file also contains notes and drafts of an article entitled 'Environment Under Fire in Nicaragua', written by Mike Webb.

Barricada and other newspapers

The file comprises newspapers and newspaper cuttings in Spanish from Barricada, Barricada Internacional and El Nuevo Diaria, as well as in English from The Guardian, March 1990. Forty-two cuttings are numbered and listed separately (although cutting No. 1 is missing). Many of these cuttings relate to the 1990 election in Nicaragua.

Articles etc., 1985-1993

The file contains newsletters (including Central America Monitor), articles and newspaper cuttings relating to politics and human rights in Central American countries, mainly El Salvador. There are also two letters to Sir Wyn Roberts MP from Tristan Garel-Jones MP (Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office), concerning the murder of Jesuit priests in El Salvador, 1991.

The file consists of various articles, newsletters, photocopies and press releases from organisations such as Grŵp Canolbarth America Môn & Arfon (Môn & Arfon Central America Group), 500 Years of Resistance Campaign and the Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign. There are also three photographs.

1990 Election

The file contains newsletters, reports, articles and newspaper cuttings from the Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign, Committee to Protect Journalists, Central American Historical Institute, the Accurate Information Project, APSNICA (Architects and Planners in Support of Nicaragua) and others, relating to the political situation in Nicaragua in the late 1980s and the 1990 Election. There are also papers relating to the effects of Hurricane Joan on Nicaragua.
