Pasted inside the front cover is a letter, July 1862, from the Reverend C H Spurgeon, the Metropolitan Tabernacle, London.

'Note book of Christmas Evans. This book belonged to John Hughes of Ruthin, formerly a travelling companion of Christmas Evans, and was given by him to Dan Davies about 1849 at Llanelly, Breconshire. It was given by Mrs Davies to Thomas Thomas D D at Cardiff, June 1879' on front cover.
