‘A Daniel to Danydre’,

Correspondence (1963) and a typescript copy (c. 1956) of a story featuring Welsh local characters, submitted to the BBC in 1956 and again in 1963 but not accepted. See also correspondence in file 63.

‘Adventure at Blue Water Bay’,

Correspondence and typescript copy of a children’s story (c. 1956), with corrections, featuring a scout troop. It was published in the ‘Fishguard County Echo’, 1 June 1960, and submitted to ‘The Scout’ but not accepted.

‘All the Queen's men’,

Typescript copy of a one act play featuring rural 1960’s characters, correspondence and notes. It was submitted to English Theatre Guild in June 1970 but not accepted.

‘Bertie the bus’,

Typescript copy of a children’s story, extract from ‘Sunny Stories’ and a note stating ‘All rights sold’ to the story. ‘Bertie the bus’ was originally titled ‘Bertie the little bus’.

‘Cathie of the canoe club’,

Correspondence and a typescript copy of a children’s story submitted to ‘Bunty’ unsuccessfully. The original copy has handwritten draft of a play ‘Housewives strike at Little Ditchwater’ on the reverse.

‘Esmeralda the roundabout horse’,

Typescript copy of a children’s story written in 1949 and ‘Sunny Stories’ extract (1954) of ‘Esmeralda’ that was also included in ‘Read Aloud Tales’ (1956), which is a collection of stories originally appearing in Sunny Stories published by George Newnes Ltd. Also included is a typescript copy of the Esmeralda story ‘She shall have music’, and correspondence with publishers.

‘Flood-tide’,

Signed typescript copy of a story annotated ‘In print’ and ‘Published’. In print was a term used by the ‘Pembrokeshire Women’s Institute Writer’s Magazine’ for inclusion.

‘Gale warning’,

Correspondence and a typescript copy of an adult story relating to a late 1940’s coast/fishing boat submitted to various magazines including ‘Wife and home’, 'Woman’s companion' & 'Sunday companion' but not accepted.

‘Goldie the cat’,

Typescript copy of a children’s story accepted and published in ‘Our Magazine - For boys and girls taught at home’, published by the West Riding of Yorkshire County Council, including a copy of the relevant issue (vol. Ten, Number 2, May 1962) and correspondence (1958, 1962). The story was not accepted by Sunny Stories as is stated in correspondence which is endorsed ‘Also Mag. For Handicapped Children – 1962’.

‘Good morning Wales’ - other articles,

Correspondence and typescript copies of articles submitted to ‘Good morning Wales’; most, if not all, were not used. The articles are ‘Whit Monday’; ‘Where to go in North Pembrokeshire’; ‘Safety afloat’; ‘Women’s Institute cooking’; ‘Baptism’ and ‘The smallest room’.

‘Good morning Wales’ – ‘Old sea dogs’,

Typescript research on seven sea captains and a quarter-master carried out for the ‘Good morning Wales’ programme in June 1966; only Captains Roberts, Varney and Hughes were used for the recording. Also included is correspondence with various publishers and the BBC and an extract from the Western Telegraph, Haverfordwest, who published all the articles.

‘Henry’,

Typescript copy of a modern story for children relating to Henry Tudor written for the Cheltenham Festival of Literature short story competition.

‘Jo-Jo the mouse’,

Typescript copy of a children’s novel, and correspondence in relation to its submission to publishers between Oct 1966 and Apr 1968.

Correspondence and typescript copies of ten children’s stories submitted to Encyclopaedia Britannica Educational Corporation, Chicago, USA for their ‘Language Experiences in Reading’. The stories are ‘The lake monsters’; ‘The new sledge’ (Peter and Patsy); ‘Freddie the ferry boat’; ‘Flipper the seal’; ‘The Unicorn’; ‘Picture stories’; ‘The Dragon with toothache’; ‘Mo makes a boat’; ‘The landslide’ and ‘Surtsey – the Young Island’.

‘Leave it to Timmie’,

Correspondence and a typescript copy of a one off story for children submitted to ‘Wife and Home’ and Thomas Long Publishers, but not accepted.

‘Little Jim’,

Two typescript copies with variations and slight annotations of a children’s story ‘Little Jim’ with an alternative title ‘The wishing well’.
