Leases and agreements by Lewis Pryse of Woodstock or his representatives, of Court y Prior and other properties in the parish of Llan-gors, 1745-1762; and of Rhwefrane, Tyr Pen y Garreg, Tyr y Pentre, Cwmb Cynnock, Y Fedw Ddu, Cwmb Llythlyn with a water corn grist mill and Tyr Galt Frane Ycha, Tyr y Felin, and several other properties in the parish of Llanfihangel Nant Bran, 1745-1761.

Breconshire estate : dispute between Lewis Pryse and John Meredith

Papers relating to an action in the Hereford Assizes court, 1759, by Lewis Pryse of Woodstock against John Meredith of Brecon, attorney, who pretended a right to the lordship and chief rents deriving from Trevynon and Trewalter, Llan-gors, in right of his wife, Joanna. The charges include trespass, distraint by the defendant’s bailiffs against William Morgan, assault and theft of a gun from Morgan Morgan. The file includes the case and opinion, 1747, letters to and from Lewis Pryse and his lawyer, John Philipps, 1751-1759, a bond to abide by arbitration, 1758; witness list; and the bill of costs from John Philipps, 1760.

Accounts and rentals

Original bundle, wrapped in a covering letter by Edward Jones of Llandovery, 1800, containing the stated accounts of John Pierce for Gogerddan and Grogwynion, 1794-1798; and rentals of the Breconshire estate of Edward Loveden Loveden, accounts and vouchers which include the disbursements of Edward Jones as deputy sheriff of Breconshire, 1798-1800.

Letters to Walter Pryse from Richard Hughes of Brecon, his son John Hughes and Thomas Penoyre of Yorke Buildings about heriots due on the Breconshire estates inherited by Walter Pryse on the death of George Lewis Langton, and general estate affairs, 1738-1741, together with two earlier receipts for heriots due upon the decease of Sir William Lewis, 1680.

Scourfield of Brecon about a lawsuit with Mr Meredith over the title to a lordship. 1759.

Mainly leases, 1619-1675, by Sir William Lewis of Llan-gors, then of Westbury and Borden in the county of Southampton (Hampshire), of properties in the parishes of Llanfihangel Nant Bran, Llan-gors, Brecon, Llanfihangel Tal-y-llyn, Trallong and Merthyr Cynog, including the fulling mill on part of Pont Willim Issa in the parish of St John the Evangelist, Brecon, 1657, and the mill in Ysgyr-fawr, Merthyr Cynog, 1662. Other deeds comprise a release by Thomas Lewis of Tir y Ffynnant Ucha, Tir y Klyn Hire, Tir y Klyn Llwyd and a portion of Tir yr Aeldwy in Llanfihangel Nant Bran, purchased from Howell Thomas and Elizabeth his wife in trust for Sir William Lewis, 1657; a lease by Leonard Bilson of Maple Durham, Hampshire, and Christopher Buckle of Burrough, Surrey, of land in Llan-gors, 1679; and the gift by Thomas Fowler of St Thomas, Staffordshire, of a yearly rent charge from the manor of Stow, Staffordshire, and from lands in Amerton, Admaston, Grainley etc. to Patrick Madan of St Giles in the Fields, Middlesex, doctor in physic, 1685, and related bond, 1694/5.
