Deeds by the mortgagees of Thomas Griffith of Penpompren, Llanfihangel Genau’r-Glyn, deceased, and his brother and devisee, Charles Griffith, for the sale in accordance with a decree in Chancery, to Margaret Pryse of Woodstock, Oxfordshire, 1787, of Cwmbwa, Melin Cwmbwa, Pandy Cwmbwa, Darren Vawr, Darren Vach, Tythin Gelly, Penygraig Llanbadarn and Penrhyncoch in the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, and Kefn Erglawdd, Pantymoilin, Pantryebolion and Braichgarw in the parishes of Llangynfelyn and Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, reciting the will of the vendor’s father, John Griffith, the subsequent mortgages, and including a schedule of deeds, 1724-1785.

Mortgage for £10 by Sir Richard Pryse of Gogerddan to Phillipp Reignald of Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn, of a messuage called Y Tythyn Bach yn Y Braych Garw, otherwise Y Llyest Vach yn Y Braych Garw in the township of Cynnull Mawr in the parish of Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, 1660; and a reconveyance by David Edward, assignee of the mortgage, to Thomas Pryse of Gogerddan, reciting previous assignments, 1733.

Gogerddan estate rent book

‘Rent book of Gogerthan Estate belonging to Tho. Prsye Esqr. commencing May 1741, Lib: ?' and ‘Chief Rents’ in a different, faded hand, containing rent accounts, 1741-1746. Childish sketches of animals and houses on end papers.

Modern research aid, consisting of two folders of notes, correspondence, 1939-1997; extracts from the Gogerddan rentals, 1741; print-outs from the uncorrected draft calendar of deeds and legal papers created by Glyn Parry, [c. 1997.]; abstracts of Pryse family wills, 1584-1694; the previous NLW outline box-list; copies of printed and typescript articles from the NLW Journal and other publications; research notes on Aberystwyth streets provided by Michael Freeman [?c. 2000] detailed lists supplied by Gerald Morgan of Boxes 56, 66, 68-69 (these box numbers now obsolete); and a letter by Walford Wynn-Jones to Glyn Parry, 1997. The file contains much useful information on the history of the Pryse family of Gogerddan, Lewes of Abernantbychan and Sir Bulstrode Whitlocke, as well as the administrative history of the archive and its acquisition by NLW, including the deposit from the British Records Association (BRA).

Papers concerning the enclosure and drainage of Cors Fochno (Borth Bog), 1816-1882. For general content see series level description. The file includes letters mainly to James Morice of Moelcerney and Richard Griffithes of Bishops Castle, from Isaac Williams of Lincolns Inn, 1825, Robert Williams of Bangor, 1820-1825, and Thomas Richards of Aberystwyth, 1833; a copy case over illicit turf-cutting, 1823, and a list of property in Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn of H.R. Jones of Garthmil Hall, Montgomeryshire, in which he claimed rights of pasture and turbary.
