Financial papers, 1871-1909, of John Rhŷs. A receipt for a book purchased in Leipzig, 1871, contains notes on philology which appear to be in the hand of John Rhŷs; and a rubbing of an inscription has been made on the reverse of another item, dated 1896.

Papers, 1869-1915, including reports, correspondence and notes, relating to the various commissions, committees and councils with which John Rhŷs was actively concerned. Included is material relating to the Departmental Committee appointed to inquire into Intermediate and Higher Education in Wales, 1869-1880; the Central Welsh Intermediate Education Fund and, in particular, the administration of the Meyrick Endowment, 1879-1901; the Royal Commission to inquire into the operation of the Sunday Closing (Wales) Act, 1881, including a Welsh translation of the report by John Rhŷs, 1890; the Royal Commission on University Education in Ireland, 1902-1911; the Committee on the University of Wales and its constituent colleges, 1872-1915; and the Royal Commission on Ancient Monuments in Wales and Monmouthshire, 1908-1915, which John Rhŷs chaired.

Papers relating to the copyright action, 1909, brought by J. Gwenogvryn Evans. They comprise holograph notes by John Rhŷs, printed transcripts of evidence given by J. Gwenogvryn Evans, and newspaper cuttings; together with two reports concerning the copyright case of Parry v. Gollancz, 1903.

Notebooks and papers, 1862-1911, of Elspeth Rhŷs, consisting mainly of translation exercises, some containing corrections and notes by John Rhŷs, and including rough drafts of an article by her published in Y Goleuad. Also included is a 'schoolmistresses certificate' containing reports of inspections; an undated verse about her in the hand of her daughter Myvanwy; press cuttings, predominantly 1882, containing references to Elspeth Rhŷs; and papers relating to her death, 1911, including memorial cards for her daughter, Gwladus, 1874.
