Conferences and speeches,

Material relating to national and international conferences organised by, or attended by, the AAM or the WAAM. The conferences mainly relate to anti-apartheid policies, particular anti-apartheid campaigns, and race relations in general. See file-level descriptions for individual printed speeches presented at conferences, hearings or seminars.

Company shareholdings,

Copies of data collected on the shareholdings of a number of British and European companies with suspected links to Apartheid South Africa,1976, and a report on South African corporate interests in Britain, 1988.

Committees,

Material documenting the activities of committees set up under the Wales Anti-Apartheid Movement (WAAM), including the Executive, National and Trade Union committees, as well as records of various joint and ad-hoc committees. Also minutes of WAAM annual general meetings and extraordinary general meetings, minutes of Welsh regional AAM groups, and records of the main Anti-Apartheid Movement (AAM) national committees.

Membership records of the Wales ARA and material relating to the activities of several national and local committees and groups. Committee papers may include meeting notices, agenda, minutes and related reports and papers.

Circulars,

Printed circulars sent by the Anti-Apartheid Movement (AAM) Central Office and the African National Congress (ANC) to Wales Anti-Apartheid Movement (WAAM) members. Also circulars distributed by WAAM to its members and affiliates. The circulars are mainly routine in nature, comprising notices of committee meetings, membership renewals and information relating to specific campaign activities or sponsored events.

Case for sanctions,

Material relating to calls for the implementation of economic sanctions against the Apartheid regime in South Africa, and the activities carried out at local and national levels in support of sanctions through the AAM "Isolate Apartheid South Africa: Sanctions Now" campaign and the organisation of a mass lobby of Parliament for sanctions against apartheid on 17 June 1986. Material includes letters, reports, memoranda, seminar and campaign papers, strategy papers, briefing documents, fact sheets, action plans, printed speeches and press releases. Also includes letters and background papers for the AAM "Isolate Apartheid" Trade Union Week of Action, 1981.

Cardiff demonstration: June 28 1986,

Material relating to a WAAM demonstration held in support of the Charter '86 campaign for sanctions against South Africa. Contains letters from the WAAM Secretary regarding the organisation of the event, AAM campaign briefings, printed items, and copies of messages from Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and also the Rt. Hon. Neil Kinnock, MP, to be read out at the demonstration.

Material relating to campaigning work of the Wales Anti-Apartheid Movement (WAAM), covering a wide range of areas targeted at a national level including sports, consumer goods, cultural figures and events, UK trade with South Africa, the release of political prisoners and an end to military and nuclear collaboration. There is also material relating to regional and local campaigns and events in which WAAM took part.

Boycotts,

Wales Anti-Apartheid Movement (WAAM) correspondence with UK and international organisations and groups relating to consumer and sports boycott activities carried out by the organisation, most of which relates to rugby tours of South Africa.
