Boycott apartheid '89,

Papers relating to the promotion of the AAM's 1989 campaign to boycott economic ties and trade links with South Africa. Comprises reports, newsletters, boycott activities, briefings, letters and promotional material.

Artists against apartheid,

Correspondence, posters and press-cuttings relating to events supported by various artists in support of the Anti-Apartheid Movement. Includes material from European exhibitions and, in particular, the Bazaar Artists Against Apartheid held at the Old Library Festival in Cardiff, 1990. Includes copy of the AAM's 1985 publication 'Drawing the Line', Cartoonists Against Apartheid.

Shirley Bassey,

Material relating to protests against the singer Shirley Bassey, who was blacklisted following her appearance in Sun City, South Africa. Includes letters, news cuttings, and a copy of the UN General Assembly Resolution on the cultural boycott of South Africa.

Boycott Barclays,

Reports, letters, newsletters, press releases, leaflets and printed matter relating to the AAM campaign against banks investing and operating in South Africa, targeting Barclays Bank in particular. Includes 'Barclays Shadow Report' 1982, 1984 and 1986, published by End Loans to South Africa (ELTSA).

South Africa coal,

Material relating to the South African coal industry, and the British and Irish Anti-Apartheid Movements' efforts to raise public awareness about the importance of continuing sanctions against the importation of South African coal. Also contains correspondence relating to South African coal imports at Royal Portbury Docks and the effects on UK collieries. Material comprises letters, memoranda, reports and copies of news cuttings.

Countdown to democracy in South Africa,

Material relating to the Countdown to Democracy in South Africa campaign, which sought to ensure a fair electoral process in the April 27th elections. File includes campaign plans and briefings; letters and statements from the Anti-Apartheid Movement, African National Congress and others; Local Group circulars and meeting agenda; draft background papers; newsletters (including 'Election Monitor'); leaflets; posters and press announcements.

Namibia emergency campaign,

Material relating to the 1988 'Free Namibia Now!' Lobby of Parliament regarding the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 435 calling for the repeal of restrictive legislation and supporting Namibian independence, and its follow-up campaign, 'Namibia Emergency Campaign', initiated by the Namibia Support Committee. Material includes background notes and papers, campaign circulars and briefing papers, reports, conference programmes, copies of news articles, press releases, newsletters, printed items, Namibia Support Committee minutes and papers, and circular letters from the Political Consultative Council of ex SWAPO detainees. Also contains South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) election campaign material, and a Trades Union Congress (TUC) briefing pack on solidarity with Namibian trade unions. There is also a small amount of material from a 1980 conference on repression in Namibia.

Arms embargo,

Material relating to the AAM and WAAM support for the implementation of a UN Arms Embargo against South Africa. File includes printed reports and memoranda, copy letters, 'The S.A. War Machine' draft manuscript, and some earlier printed matter.

Apartheid and health,

AAM Health Committee papers relating to campaign work regarding the reality of health care under apartheid, and the need for better health care in South Africa. Material includes reports and papers, AAM and WAAM appeal leaflets, and draft articles.

Freedom concert,

Posters, press releases and information about the artists appearing at the Wales Anti-Apartheid Movement "Freedom Concert" at St David's Hall, Cardiff, 26 April 1990.

Time to act,

AAM briefing documents relating to the launch of a national campaign "Southern Africa: The Time to Act" which called for a fundamental change in British policy towards Southern Africa. Also a WAAM conference programme and flyers, 'Apartheid - Time to Act', 1990.

UK election campaigns,

Material relating to the AAM's campaign to seek support for their "Manifesto for Sanctions" proposals by General Election candidates in the 1987 and 1992 UK General Elections, in opposition to the current government policy on sanctions against South Africa. File includes copies of letters, the AAM Manifesto, briefing papers and campaign documents.

World day of prayer,

Photocopy of the World Council of Churches (WCC) order of service for the World Day of Prayer for a free Namibia, held 4 May 1988, commemorating the anniversary of the Kassinga massacre.
