Somerville College, Oxford: general file

The file consists of letters and published material concerning Somerville College, Oxford. There is a small group of letters, 1928, relating to the award of a scholarship to Eirene White to attend Somerville College. Many of the papers also relate to the celebration of the college's centenary in 1979, and there are numerous copies of the Annual Reports and Statements, 1964-1978, published by the College. There is also a group of photocopies of papers and other notes, 1879-1932, assembled by Lady White on the occasion of the celebration of the College's centenary.

The file comprises drafts and copies of letters from Lady White, many of political interest, some relating to matters appertaining to the House of Lords. Others concern social functions and other events to which she was invited. There are several copies of letters which Lady White had written for publication in national newspapers, mainly The Times or The Independent. The file also includes several copies of the circular letters which she distributed to friends and acquaintances usually at Christmas.
