The file consists of a run of letters, mainly to or from Eirene White, together with enclosures, relating to Labour Party policies and attitudes on higher education. There are also fairly detailed manuscript notes by Eirene White on visits to Leicestershire, 17 February 1961, and to Coventry, 3 March 1961, to discuss educational policy and the 'Leicestershire plan'.

The file includes correspondence and papers relating to the theme 'New Playgrounds', a successor to 'Design for Play' and inspired by the social survey 'Two to Five in High Flats' (see file E/11). The papers include the typescript draft of a report.

The file comprises a substantial group of typescript items, mainly circulars, mainly relating to political life. Of particular interest is a report, 'Trade Unions in Nationalised Industries' produced by the Intelligence Division of the Ministry of Labour in November 1919.

Aneurin Bevan

The file is composed of press cuttings and papers concerning the career of Aneurin Bevan, together with the typescript draft of an article or part of a volume, presumably the work of John White. There is a copy of Bevan's birth certificate and two letters, 1951, from Dr Thomas Jones CH to John White.
