'The Mystery of Life in Plants'

Lecture notes entitled 'The Mystery of Life in Plants', delivered at Bangor University, October 1905, and at Newtown, March 1915; together with Welsh versions of the lecture delivered at Conwy, November 1910, and at Aberystwyth, October 1918. A copy of Bangor Popular Lectures at the University College. Season 1905-1906 Book Ticket, which includes a synopsis of the lecture, is also enclosed.

A 'list of arrangements by JLlW of Welsh melodies printed in the booklets of Undeb Cymanfaoedd Ysgolion', together with many of the listed melodies, is also included. A number of items are in the hand of Mary Davies. The file also contains a few carols and settings for penillion singing.

Folk songs from various sources, most of which, although entitled 'Welsh airs (unpublished)' appeared later in the Journal of the Welsh Folk-Song Society. Covering letters or provenance notes are included and some are in J. Lloyd Williams's hand.

Letters, 1920-1934, mainly from Sir Walford Davies in his role as Director of the National Council of Music. Some letters relate to matters concerning music at Aberystwyth College when both he and J. Lloyd Williams were on the staff but most, from 1929 onwards, relate to the editorship of Y Cerddor. A few related letters from J. Lloyd Williams are included, together with letters (4) from E. J. Grutchfield.

Manuscript or typescript copies and press cuttings of short stories and essays, written under various pseudonyms but probably by J. Lloyd Williams himself. The majority were published in the Western Mail and Y Faner. Some items included relate to Welsh music or botany.
