Nicholas Bennett

An index on paper slips, in J. Lloyd Williams's hand, of folk tunes and songs found mainly in the work of Nicholas Bennett. References supporting his candidature for the Chair of Botany at Aberystwyth in 1903 appear on the verso of some slips.

National Council of Music

Minutes and various reports, 1938, of the University of Wales National Council of Music. They relate mainly to the role of music education in schools and the wider community. Minutes of the Haddon Committee, October 1930, and the resolutions of the sub-committee held at Bangor, December 1930, are also enclosed, together with notes in J. Lloyd Williams's hand, apparently for a meeting in November 1931.

A bundle of paper slips forming an index of Welsh terms, often archaic, relating to music, including references to sources in manuscripts. A card index of music terms in English with Welsh translations, is also included.

Music in education

Reports relating to music education in Caernarfonshire, minutes of the Sub-Committee of the county council; feedback from headmasters to a memorandum on music for schools; documents relating to music in schools throughout Wales in general; and related correspondence. J. Lloyd Williams is the author of a number of these reports and the file also includes a critical report by him on the role of Welsh music in the music departments of the University of Wales.

Music book

A small volume containing Welsh and English tunes. In 1833 the book belonged to John Williams, Llanfachreth, but the tunes were transcribed by another person, possibly at the end of the eighteenth century.

Correspondence, 1931-1932, between J. Lloyd Williams and R. D. Jamieson, manager of the Montgomeryshire Express Ltd., relating to the publication of Y Cerddor for the National Council of Music. A holograph copy of J. Lloyd Williams's report to the Council of Music, Bangor, January 1932, is also included.
