The group comprises deeds for houses and lands of Griffith of Garn and related families in Denbighshire, 1572-1903, Flintshire, 1737-1891, Anglesey, 1770-1790, Merioneth and Denbighshire combined, 1681, 1691, 1737, Caernarfonshire, 1616-1821, Montgomeryshire, 1754, and miscellaneous counties, 1815, [c. 1819]. The documents comprise deeds of feoffment, bargain and sale, lease and release, grants in fee farm, leases, fines, exemplifications of recovery and other deeds associated with fines and recoveries, mortgages, assignments, probate records, bonds, settlements, abstracts of title and schedules of deeds. They are mostly original, but they also include copies and drafts.

Tithe accounts

The file comprises tithe accounts for Merllyn, Bryn Issa and Garn, demands for payment of tithe to the parishes of Cwm, Rhyl, Rhuddlan, Llanefydd and Llanrwst, with receipts and occasional covering letters, 1841-1844, 1904.

The file comprises a valuation of oak and ash trees growing at Waen Dwysog, 1748, agreement for sale of oak, ash, elm and saplings at Waen Dwysog, 1772, bill for labour, 1809, and particulars and conditions of sale of fallen timber at Roe and Garn, 1814.

The Middletown, Alberbury

The file comprises a mortgage of lands called the Middletown by James Augustus Hunter of Hockley, Birmingham, and Elizabeth, his wife, to William Tanner and Samuel Bennison, dated 1815. James Hunter was a nurseryman and a friend of John Wynne Griffith of Garn.

Tan y Llan and Pentre, Llanefydd, Llain Hir, Henllan

The file comprises deeds for Tan y Llan and Pentre in the parish of Llanefydd and Llain Hir in Henllan, which were sold to John Wynne Griffith by Elizabeth Giffard in 1819. It includes an abstract of her title, 1737-1818. [Tan y Llan was conveyed to trustees in a family settlement of 1833, for raising money for the portions of J.W.G.'s younger children].

The file comprises certification, 1813, by William Jones of Groes that he has given possession of a croft called Tan y Graig to John Wynne Griffith in exchange for a field called Croft Francon, belonging to Gwaun Dwysog.

Smith's shop and Cross Keys, Henllan

The file comprises a draft deed of sale by Thomas Longueville Longueville and Edward Williams, trustees of Frederick Richard West, to Hugh Hughes of a smith's shop and croft whereon H.H. had already erected a house, called the Cross Keys, and a draft mortgage of the premises by H.H. to George Griffith of Garn, 1856.

The file comprises a roll of Ruthin school, 1803, which includes the names of of John Wynne Griffith the younger and Thomas Griffith, ordination papers of Robert Griffith, clerk, 1811-1812, articles of clerkship of George Griffith to an attorney, 1811, and his appointment as Recorder of Denbigh Town and Corporation, 1834, a special constable's warrant card of William Douglas Wynne Griffith, 1915, and specifications for the uniform of deputy lieutenant, 1920.

School papers, certificates and appointments

The series comprises certificates and other papers relating to the ordination, clerkship and appointments of Hugh Hughes of Weeg, 1746, and members of the Griffith family, namely Robert Griffith, George Griffith, 1811-1834, and William Douglas Wynne Griffith , 1915-1920, and a roll of Ruthin school which includes two of the Griffith children, 1803.
