Garn Estate Records
Rhagolwg argraffu Gweld:

Cases concerning the estate of John Griffith of Garn

The file includes cases and opinions on the entitlement of John Griffith (3) of Garn to his mother's fortune and to the Cwyber estate, and the liability of his father's personal estate to payment of debts and legacies, following the latter's death in 1758. The difficulties had arisen through John Griffith (2)'s failure to fulfil completely the stipulations of his marriage settlement, despite a further settlement in 1755.

Agreement regarding vicarage road exchange

The file comprises an opinion on right of way, 1823, with copies of maps and an enclosure award, and heads of agreement and other papers regarding an exchange of land between Rev. Richard Briscoe and George Griffith to enable more convenient access by the vicarage road, Henllan, 1839.

Financial papers

The group comprises financial papers of the Griffith family of Garn and others such as Hughes of Gwydir and Weeg and Wynn of Havodgregog, including accounts, bills and receipts, 1687-1906, mortgages, 1680-1862, bonds and promissory notes, 1736-1876.

Tithe accounts

The file comprises tithe accounts for Merllyn, Bryn Issa and Garn, demands for payment of tithe to the parishes of Cwm, Rhyl, Rhuddlan, Llanefydd and Llanrwst, with receipts and occasional covering letters, 1841-1844, 1904.

Mortgage of Cwyber and Tre-Llewelin

The file comprises a mortgage for £1000 dated 1760, by John Griffith (3) to Robert Wynne of Garthewin, of Cwyber and Tre-Llewelin in the parish of Rhuddlan, Flintshire, preceded by a deed to make a tenant to the precipe, 1759, to enable a recovery to be suffered to the use of the said John Griffith. This mortgage followed shortly after the death of John Griffith (2) in 1759, presumably a time of considerable expense, and indeed legal records suggest that his personal estate was insufficient to meet all the debts.

Bonds and promissory notes

The series comprises bonds, a promissory note and receipt deriving from financial arrangements of the Wynn family of Havodgregog and the Griffith family of Garn, 1739-1769, 1867, 1876.
