Food and general household accounts

The file comprises three notebooks and several loose accounts of foodstuffs, fuel, household items, wool, inventories of the stable, 1799, butler's pantry, 1803 and silver plate, 1814-1819.

Miscellaneous recipes

The file comprises loose recipes and small notebooks, 1725, 1771-1785, and a large 'Receipt Book' of Jane Griffith, 1769-1790, which contains culinary, medical, veterinary, household and cosmetic recipes, and which is a re-used Bangor diocesan registrar's account book of 1746-1749, probably owned previously by Jane's uncle, Rev. Hugh Hughes.

Veterinary recipes

The file comprises remedies for ailments and conditions in horses and farm animals, 1730-1767.

Griffith family settlements (John Wynne Griffith)

The file comprises settlements involving John Wynne Griffith of Garn, including his marriage settlement with Jane Wynne of Plasnewydd, 1785, preceded by a recovery of the Denbighshire and Flintshire estates, 1784; a settlement between J.W.G. and his mother, Jane Griffith, 1801, to compromise on disagreements regarding her annuity and interest on £3000 from her husband's estate, and to compensate her sister, Elizabeth, for non-payment of debts and interest on a legacy bequeathed by the will of her aunt, Mary Hughes (1782); disentailments of the Caernarfonshire estate, 1811, and the Denbighshire and Flintshire estates, 1814; a subsequent conveyance of 1814 by John Wynne Griffith to a trustee of his eldest surviving son, Robert, of lands in Gyffin and Caerhun, in return for raising £6000 for his younger children out of the estates in Denbighshire and Merionethshire which Robert had recently inherited from his mother; the marriage settlement of Harriet Griffith and John Price of Brynbella, 1827; and a new financial settlement to benefit J.W.G.'s surviving younger children, 1833, necessitated by the deaths of Robert Griffith in 1819 and Richard Augustus Griffith, whom Robert had named one of his heirs, in 1831.

Hughes family settlements (incorporating Wynn of Havodgregog)

The file comprises prenuptial and postnuptial settlements of Maurice Wynn of Havodgregog and Grace Hughes of Gwydir (aunt of Jane Griffith, née Hughes), 1732, 1734/5; disentailment of the Havodgregog estate and property in Pwllheli, 1756; the marriage settlement of Jane, daughter of Grace Wynn of Havodgregog and Zacheus Hughes of Trefan, 1759.

Wills of John Wynne Griffith and family

The file includes the will and administration of John Wynne Griffith of Garn, dated 2 Nov. 1833, proved 1835, with three codicils, 1833-1834, and several drafts and copies, 1828-1833, which contain bequests of plants and garden equipment and silver and gold heirlooms, together with wills of his son, Thomas Griffith, Lieut. in the East India Company, dated 27 July 1811, with a letter of attorney appointing administrators, 1814, his mother, Jane Griffith of Denbigh, dated 20 October 1811, proved 1812, bequeathing silver, furniture and monogrammed linen, and his son, Richard Augustus Griffith of Garn, dated 1 Sept. 1831.

Wills of Robert Hughes and family of Gwydir, Weeg, Llwyn Gronw and Cae'r berllan

The file comprises the following wills: Robert Hughes of Gwydir, 17 March 1739, proved 1742, including bequests of diamond rings, gold watches, gold seals and law books; his wife, Elizabeth Hughes, 14 April 1738; his brother, Rev. Hugh Hughes, vicar of Bangor, 9 August 1750; his brother, John Hughes of Weeg (father of Jane Griffith of Garn), 17 August 1752, proved 1760, with inventory dated 1752, receipts of legacies 1753, and account of probate expenses, 1759; his sister, Jane Hughes, 1 July 1756, proved 1767; and his sister, Mary Hughes, 19 Nov 1770, with codicils dated 1776 and 1782, proved 1782.

Wills of Wynne family of Plasnewydd

The file comprises copy wills of Robert Wynne of Plasnewydd (father of Jane Griffith of Garn), dated 24 Sept. 1767, proved 1782, and his grandson, W[atkin] Wynne on campaign in camp at [?]wera, dated 14 June 1811.

Miscellaneous cases

The file comprises a sheriff's writ for apprehension of David Owen to answer David Morris, 1690, duties of inhabitants of Clocaenog Park to attend manorial courts, list of persons summoned for a special jury in the case of William Jones, 1783, with instructions on the purpose of manorial courts and duties of officers in the Court Leet and Court Baron, list of gentlemen who have promised to serve on a grand jury at Denbigh Assizes, 1885, and a general release from a debt to the Inland Revenue, 1928.

Cases concerning estates of the Myddelton family of Chirk Castle

The file comprises a rent roll of the paternal estate of Robert Myddelton of Chirk Castle, who died in 1733, succeeded by his brother, John, and three separate cases involving John Myddelton, 1736-1744: demands by his brother's creditors for payment of debts, a dispute with his sister-in-law, Anne, concerning non-payment of rents and entitlement to lands in Denbighshire and Montgomeryshire, and his own attempt to recover estate profits from the widow and son of his former steward. The cases may have been of interest to John Griffith (2) of Garn who was a trustee of the will of Sir William Myddelton and collected Chirk rents until 1750.

Cases concerning the estate of John Griffith of Garn

The file includes cases and opinions on the entitlement of John Griffith (3) of Garn to his mother's fortune and to the Cwyber estate, and the liability of his father's personal estate to payment of debts and legacies, following the latter's death in 1758. The difficulties had arisen through John Griffith (2)'s failure to fulfil completely the stipulations of his marriage settlement, despite a further settlement in 1755.

Agreement regarding vicarage road exchange

The file comprises an opinion on right of way, 1823, with copies of maps and an enclosure award, and heads of agreement and other papers regarding an exchange of land between Rev. Richard Briscoe and George Griffith to enable more convenient access by the vicarage road, Henllan, 1839.
