File comprises a typed essay by John Grigg entitled 'Lloyd George and an American donation: new light on the financial ethics of a great man.

File contains a typescript article, c. 1920, entitled, 'Our Lady of Downing Street - a Study for Secretaries', by Helen Ormsbee of Brooklyn, New York, an article on the role of Frances Stevenson as a private secretary to Lloyd George and based at 10 Downing Street (ff. 1-7); and a booklet containing the published text of lecture, published by the Association of Women Clerks and Secretaries, by Frances Stevenson entitled 'The Private Secretary' (ff. 8-13).

File contains correspondence between David Lloyd George, Jennifer Stevenson and others. Among the letters are: a note, 1 November 1938, in the hand of David Lloyd George at Bron-y-de, Churt concerning the ownership of one of the dogs on the estate (f. 15); notification, 29 August 1917, in the hand of David Lloyd George that he has transferred to Frances Louise Stevenson bonds to the value of £500 in the last National Loan 'for her own sole use & benefit' (ff. 1-3); a letter from D. Lloyd George to John Stevenson, father of Frances Stevenson, 12 February 1923, expressing gratitude for the gift of cigars (f. 4); a postcard, 9 November 1936, from Lloyd George at Southampton to Jennifer Stevenson, depicting the passenger liner of the East Asiatic Company Ltd on which he is about to travel (f. 13); a postcard, 12 December 1936, from Lloyd George at Kingston, Jamaica to Jennifer Stevenson, conveying Christmas greetings (f. 14); a note, Christmas 1939, from Lloyd George to Muriel Stevenson. He had forgotten to ask her mother whether she was allowed to use a latch key (ff. 16-17). Also, a letter, 3 November 1940, from Jennifer Longford at Penrhos College, Bakewell, to Lloyd George at Brynawelon, Criccieth describing her activities and movements and her wish that Lloyd George would consent to join the war cabinet (ff. 20-21); a letter, 11 November 1940, from Lloyd George at Criccieth to Jennifer Stevenson, giving his reasons, in response to a letter from Jennifer, for his failure to join the War Cabinet (ff. 22-24); and a letter, c. 1940, from Lloyd George at Estorel to Jennifer Stevenson with thanks for the birthday present of a comb (f. 25).

The letters are personal giving family news, but there are some reflections on the First World War.

The file consists of letters which give personal news and plans and arrange meetings.

The letters,[c. 1925]-1944, which are very difficult to decipher and comprehend, contain mainly personal, family and domestic news, with some references to academic and political life. The file also includes the memorial service card for Lettice Fisher (1875-1956).

Most of the letters were written by Miss Parry in her capacity as curator of the Lloyd George Museum at Llanystumdwy, Cricieth. They discuss the layout of the museum grounds, the management of adjacent properties and the delineation of their boundaries, the maintenance of the gardens, and the organization of exhibitions and catalogues. There are many references to attendance figures and to ways of attracting increased numbers of visitors and to meetings of the museum management committee. Some letters refer to events held to commemorate Lloyd George.

The letters concern an article on Sir Frederick Maurice which Sir John Kennedy was preparing for the Dictionary of National Biography. There are two draft replies from Frances and a photocopy of a letter from Sir John Kennedy relating to 'The Burnt Paper' sent for publication to The Spectator.

The letters discuss a wide range of subjects: the maintenance of Lloyd George's grave; the writer's interests and activities; publications about Lloyd George and reflections on his life and contribution; and arrangements to meet.

The file consists of letters and papers, 1957-1971, relating mainly to the care of Lloyd George's grave at Llanystumdwy on the banks of the river Dwyfor, but some concern local celebrations of the centenary of Lloyd George's birth in January 1963, a visit to the grave by the Queen and Prince Philip in the following August, and the protest made by the Council for the Preservation of Rural Wales in 1969 against the proposed 'desecration' of the River Dwyfor, a protest with which Frances associated herself. The file includes letters from James Morris (Jan Morris), 1968, and Harold Wilson, 1968.

The file comprises letters from historians and authors relating to their researches on Lloyd George, including letters from Martin Gilbert (14), 1964-1972, and Cameron Hazlehurst (37), 1968-1972.

The file includes papers relating to the state funeral of Sir Winston Churchill at St Paul's Cathedral in January 1965.

Miscellaneous printed items, mainly acquired by Frances, the most significant being a pass to the Paris Peace Conference, 1919; a ticket to admit Frances to the members' gallery of the House of Commons, 9 July 1935; Frances's National Registration Identity Card, 1943-1947; and a pass to admit Frances to the Palace of Westminster, 1944. Other items of some interest include the Order of Service at Ramsay MacDonald's funeral service at Westminster Abbey, 26 November 1937; and a copy of Frances Stevenson, The Private Secretary.

Miscellaneous press cuttings, mainly of political interest, most relating to Lloyd George or to members of the Lloyd George family. The file includes a scrapbook of press cuttings dating from 1940 relating to the death of Colonel T. F. Tweed. Many of the cuttings concern Frances's life and activities after Lloyd George's death in 1945.

Miscellaneous notes accumulated by Ruth Longford while researching and writing Frances, Countess Lloyd George: More than a Mistress (Leominster, 1996), including notes on source materials, typescript draft memoirs by Jennifer Longford, a typescript dissertation [? by Ruth Longford] on Lloyd George and Hitler, and miscellaneous stray sources which had come into her possession.

Some of the letters relate to various events organised to commemorate the name of D. Lloyd George. The file includes letters from Richard Dimbleby, 1949, Sir Dingle Foot, 1952, Jan Smuts, 1948, and Leonard Stein, 1951.
