David Jones: Anterliwtiau

Two interludes, in Welsh, 18 cent., the first (incomplete) relating to Welsh chronicle from the time of Brutus to the time of George III in the hand of David Jones of Trefriw, the second (beginning imperfect) relating to the story of Cain and Abel. Thomas Edwards (Twm o'r Nant (1739-1810) is known to have written an interlude on the latter subject.

A miscellaneous collection, in Welsh and English, [early 18 cent.]-[mid 18 cent.], of notes and papers mostly in the hand of Lewis Morris (1701-1765) and probably collected and bound together by him.

Reverend Samuel Williams: Pregethau

A book of sermons, in Welsh, [1712] x [1719], in the hand of the Reverend Samuel Williams, Rector of Llangynllo and Vicar of Llandyfriog, Cardiganshire, the father of the Reverend Moses Williams. A list of the sermons, in the hand of Moses Williams, is on p. 3 of the volume. It is possible that they were translations of English sermons and were meant to be printed, as, at the end of many of the sermons the words 'per. and ap.' have been written in pencil, perhaps meaning 'perused and approved' for printing. Most of the sermons were preached at Llanarth and Llanina on several occasions between 1712 and 1719. Also included (p. 109) is part of a letter addressed to the 'Reverend Mr. Samuel Williams, Vicar of Llan Dyvrïog in Cardigan Shire, to be left at Mr. Salathiel Evan's in Lammas Street, Carmarthen, South Wales'.

A volume containing sermons (pp. 7-35, 45-73, 93-100, 317-348, 378-388), a catalogue of books, Dublin, 1700 (pp. 39-43) and a list of books (pp. 301-2), genealogical data regarding the family of Dr Charles Vaughan of Londonderry (pp. 86-9), with further notes on Dr Vaughan (pp. 400, 402), also miscellaneous extracts (pp. 158-74, 267-8, 269-72, 273-310). A copy of 'The Whole Book of Psalmes ... 1627' has been bound into the volume after p. 390. With NLW MS 72A.

Sermons

Sermons, in English and Welsh, preached at Builth (1629), Llanafan (1629, 1630, 1660) and Llanfihangel, Abergwesyn, Brecknock (1633). Lengthy Latin quotations are included in both English and Welsh sermons.

William Robinson: Antiquities of Ancient Britain (Vol. 1)

An apparently unpublished work, in two volumes, c. 1846, by William Robinson, documenting the history of Britain 'from the first traditional beginning' and including accounts of the Saxons, Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans. Both volumes contain numerous original drawings and a map of Europe. With NLW MS 91B.

An account of the Morris family

A volume, compiled c. 1774, containing an account of the family of Morris of Piercefield in Monmouthshire and of their connections in the West Indies and in the United States. Also included are additions of a later date.

A poem, 19 cent., by Sir Samuel Rush Meyrick, entitled Syr Owain, in which the scene is set in Wales at the beginning of the 12th century.

John Rowland: Inscriptions

A collection of inscriptions, copied by John Rowland (Giraldus), from churches in Carmarthenshire and Glamorgan. Some of the inscriptions were included in John Rowland's book Historical Notes of the Counties of Glamorgan, Carmarthen and Cardigan, &c. (Cardiff, 1866).

The Urinal of Physick

A volume containing a transcript, 1875-1876, by G. H. H. of NLW MS 48. Also included are notes relating to Robert Recorde (p. 10) and to Andrew Boorde (pp. 425-6).

A volume containing copies, [19 cent.], of letters from the Rev. Edward Owen of Warrington to the Rev. John Williams of Llanrwst between 15 November 1789 and 8 March 1805, which contain many interesting references to Goronwy Owen.

One of two notebooks, early 19 cent., bound in one cover containing miscellaneous notes, in Welsh and English, by Edward Jones (Bardd y Brenin), which include poetry, accounts of historical and legendary figures and of place names, sketches and drawings, copies of inscriptions, extracts from historical manuscripts, etc. A few loose leaves have been inserted into the volume.
