Death of Thomas Jones

The file consists of miscellaneous correspondence and papers, 1955-1956, relating to the death and the administration of the estate of Dr Thomas Jones. These include copies of obituaries and tributes published in newspapers and journals, estate accounts, preliminary plans for his memorial service and the Thomas Jones Memorial Fund, and various ideas for projects to commemorate his life and work.

Diary collection,

Nos 1-87. Correspondence, memoranda and papers forming a Diary collection. Nos 84-86 are undated papers. No. 87 is a notebook with lists of visitors at Cliveden and some notes on the 'Cliveden Set'.

Drafts of speeches,

Nos 1-32. Notes and drafts of, with a little correspondence on, speeches which Thomas Jones prepared or helped to prepare for others to deliver. Nos 20-23 refer to the speech of Lord Halifax, Foreign Secretary, in June 1939. Nos 25-32 refer to the King's Christmas Broadcast in 1944. Note: These papers are merely a residue. The collection, which is somewhat diffuse, contains several reports by the C.W.B. and the Welsh Dept., Board of Education, and includes material on the controversies over the central organisation of Welsh education, 1919-1925. Nos 44-48 include memoranda by Thomas Jones, Ifan ab Owen Edwards and M. H. Jones on the teaching of Welsh, Sunday Schools, and the C.W.B. submitted to the Departmental Committee on Welsh, 1924-25. No. 56 is a report by T. H. Lewis on the history of the Welsh Department, Board of Education. No. 51 is a report on technical education in Montgomeryshire, 1935.
