The file comprises fragments of the earliest manuscript draft of In Parenthesis, numbered by David Jones 1-7, 7-8, 8-10, and 11-12 on verso. The first page is entitled 'To Mr René Hague'.
The file comprises fragments of the earliest manuscript draft of In Parenthesis, numbered by David Jones 1-7, 7-8, 8-10, and 11-12 on verso. The first page is entitled 'To Mr René Hague'.
The file comprises an early manuscript draft of Part VII 'Invenimus eam in Campis silvae', numbered by David Jones 234-281/283 and foliated 1-109 (2), 110-172, 174-226 in the Library. The file also includes a cover.
The file comprises a typescript draft with manuscript corrections of Part II, 'Chambers go off, corporals stay' numbered 23-39. The final page, numbered 39 by David Jones, is a manuscript.
The file comprises a final manuscript draft of Part VI 'Pavilions and Captians of fifty' numbered 209-216, 216a, 216b, 217-232, 234-5 by David Jones.
The file comprises an early typescript draft of Part I 'All Men, children and upwards', pp. 1-18, 39, with manuscript revisions by David Jones. These typescripts are later than any of the manuscript drafts and were rejected from the 1932 draft whilst pp. 19-38 of the typescripts were retained (see LP2/2 and LP2/3).
The file comprises a final typescript of the whole text, Parts I-VII, numbered 1-177, with p. 178 wanting. There are slight revisions in pencil by David Jones, notably in Part IV. It has been marked for the printers, but apparently it was the carbons that were used for setting up.
The file comprises complete carbons of the 1935 typescript of the Notes for Part IV to VII, numbered IV 1-20; V 1-12; VI 1-3; and VII 1-7-10 (with one inserted page after VII 7). They were probably typed in 1935, and contain significant revisions by David Jones in pencil. They have been marked off by the printer. The marking off shows that in the galleys the notes were in blocks following each part of the text.
The file comprises inserts to come between the final manuscript draft and the typescripts. There are pages of manuscript insertions for Part III p. 51, Part IV p. 79, and Part VII p. 177, with typescript copies of each of the insertions. The insertions for p. 51 and p. 79 are included in the 1935 typescripts and there are duplicates of the inserts in the final manuscript, but the insert for p. 177 does not appear to be the copy sent to the printers.
The file comprises proofs of part of Part VII probably made in 1936: three copies of text corresponding to pp. 153-172 printed in two columns on four newspaper-sized sheets, one copy corrected in pencil by David Jones (ff. 1-12); text corresponding to pp. 161-164 printed on two folio-sized leaves with notes in margin (f. 13); and one leaf, with text of pp. 161-163, differing only in spacing (f. 14). On these proofs, probably made in 1936, see René Hague David Jones p. 36. They were pulled on 'a type of Cope's Albion handpress'. Their text is not from the final typescript. It is possibly from the final manuscript draft before the last revision of that draft.
The file comprises page proofs of pp. 1-9, 13-24 only with corrections by David Jones in pencil and red crayon. The pencil corrections are repeated in No. 2, but the red corrections are not incorporated until No. 5, presumably made after the return of proofs No. 2 to the printers.
The file comprises another set of the same proofs and pages as No. 1 (pp. 1-9, 13-24) corrected by David Jones in pencil. From this (or its counterpart) corrections were made for Nos. 3-6.
The file comprises a revise of the four sections of No. 7 not passed for press - the preliminaries, pp. 59-74, 75-90 and 219-[226]. They are all marked by David Jones, and some are very minor revisions. The two middle sections are marked by David Jones as 'passed for press May 6 37' the others on May 12. All are marked printed, the middle sections are marked printed on May 11.
The file comprises another copy of four preliminary sections (i-xv) of the same revise as No. 9 only partly marked by David Jones.
The file comprises a revise of part of No. 9, namely Notes parts 6 and 7 (pp. 219-[226]), with the addition of the errata on p. 225.
